I'm going to be putting on a Factory Pro shift star on my 03. It's not here yet but I took everything apart which was pretty easy and I'm guessing the install will be too. Is there anything I should look out for?

On the 9R use the spring and it will shift better, but we had a hard time shifting it into neutral. As for the Busa, at one point ALL the Suzuki sport bikes had a poor shift star and Suzuki released an updated design and some companies were just reselling the Suzuki part. Suzuki also had an improved shift arm also. |

Looking at the parts they don't look cheap. The star feels just as heavy as stock. I thought it would be lighter. Install was fairly easy. Should have my new clutch installed in a couple of days. It's going to be interesting to see what happens now. I bought this thing because I like to do a lot of clutchless upshifting. If you get it right it's sweet. If you don't it gives you a big clunk. This is a band-aid for my weak riding skills.

2 pieces of metal that weigh the same dont have to have the same strength properties. there are so many different metals and metal alloys... weight is not the strength determining factor. remember TI is something like %56 lighter than steel. preload the shifter with your toe for the upshift, as soon as you let off the gas it will click into place. dont try to let off the gas and hit it up at the same time, preload it. it works, ask anyone that drag races without an airshifter(i made about 200 passes before i got one)

if you like quick shifts, get the dynojet quick shifter. full throttle clutchless upshifts. you just up-shift and it automatically kills the engine, plus its internally spring loaded, so it doesn't actually kill the engine until the shifter is preloaded, like how scott was explaining. on top of that its air shifter compatible, no extra electronics needed ![]() you actually have to mount it backwards (its kinda hidden behing the shift lever). otherwise it hits the frame. its seriously worth every penny. just make sure to add enough kill time or you'll chew up your tranny |

did you copy my air shifter setup? :) you can route the air line thru a tiny hole there in your frame to put it out of the way and protected just a bit more. the line has the same basic route, just inside the big part of the frame

already got it done. i just used a little 90* push in coupler to keep the line from kinking. i'm running nylon lines instead of the shitty vinyl one that race shops sell. what i run is the same tubing that semi's use on their brakes. same OD, but its stiffer and much more durable. one blow out was enough for me...

OK, got the new clutch & star installed and went for a short ride. Man did I need a new clutch. I can't believe how grabby the new one is. As far as the star goes it does what it says it will do. The best way I can put it is the shifts are more solid now. It has more of a snap feel to it and you know for sure you're in the next gear. When using the clutch it is smooth & crisp. It has also smoothed out the clutchless upshifts. Especially the big 1st to 2nd jump that would give me the most trouble. Had no trouble with neutral. Am I going to recommend everyone go out & do this mod asap. No, but I'm not going to say don't do it. Is it worth $200? More like $100 would be just right. IMO I'm glad I put it on. I know other say different but this is only day one. We'll see how it goes long term. Clutch install note: just slapped some oil on the friction plates minutes before putting them on and had zero trouble. |
