| ZX-9R vs ZX-10R (171-173 mph on GPS)
Fookin A it got a tad chilly. Met up with an 08 10R...while on the 9R....[:S] 750 tagged along too. HOLY FACKING SMOKES PROBABLY ZE BEST OF ZE BEST ROLL-ONS EVER!!! [:D] Words can't describe....I've never ever had more tooth and nail runs with anyone on any bike .... EVER. From 60 mph to 171-172 mph on GPS on the rev limiter. Slight bends and crests on bumpy roads in the middle of the night had the 9R in its element....about as fast as one could safely go and as stable as the as the 10R...while not needing the damper it did. Roads were long enough to tap out 6th barely (I could not have been geared any more perfect). 10R rider was about 200 lbs...bone stock. Camera ripped off my head during round one...facking cheap ducttape [li] It was probably ze most fun I've had on 2 wheels in a long time...and I'm including the 250 in the twisties and the 12R in the straights. Over and over and over and over and over.....I honestly figured get walked by 3rd ... but whereas I've had lightweight K6 guys walk by around 4th and held off heavy guys for 8/10ths of a mile....the 200 lb rider on the 10R was even steven. I mean flip a coin....2-3 bikes between us at the most through all the gears flat out. Flip a coin, it was always that close, an honest 50/50 or so between the 10R staying out front at about 172 or the 9R. Both he and I were surprised. I let him pick the roll speeds but 2nd had him out of his element....1st was a handful with the wheelies. 2nd gear for the 9R gave good usable midrange and top end power with no wheelie issues (skims the front tire less than the 750). GP shift meant no missed shifts all night. I'm really starting to dig the 9R. It doesn't win any beauty contests but in a way I like that. Great wind protection, great "feel" and I wish I could describe that better. Suspension is very dialed in....even hitting bumps at 160 to 170 WOT slappers were very very minor...just a little headshake letting you know what you should already know. The creciendo of power means it isn't a handful down low and it delivers the goods up top. The 750s seem flatter down low and peakier up top. I asked the 10R guy after our runs if he wanted to swap...he laughed knowing I would never roll off and leave him with the short end of the stick ... oh well. Don't want to give away ze details but there were some fun/fast cars that came too. Its times like these that the 9R makes more sense than the 12. The 12 would have decimated everyone all night...fun but sorta lonely. The 9R was in the thick of it. Perfect your tuck, WOT, snap off perfect shifts, scoot in real sleek and this 10 year old bike surprises EVERYONE! Standing on the pegs it pulls cleanly past 150 on GPS....fingers were getting a little cold so I was sometimes loosing a little grip on the handlebars...sometimes its fun to push it. The front gets a little light and shakey....less than the 750 but more than the 12 for sure, even thought the 12 pulls MUCH HARDER and peaks much higher. Hard to believe what a sprocket change and slip-on can do to a bike. I thought about shortening up the gearing tonight .... glad i didn't or the 10 woulda walked and the 750 woulda been up my ass. You'd think at those speeds I'd have been freezing....I was warm as could be from the adrenaline. Putt-Putt home doing the speed limit had me much colder. A. | |
