Did float bowl mod. Whre r ur float lvls set at, and pilots

I got my bike running today. I was recently trying some 140 mains, I don't think this worked too well? So the only thing I had left was my 180s. I did the float bowl mod, and installed my 180s back in. On the zx7 site, Ken said that after doing this mod, u definetely won't need those rediculously large mains anymore. I think I'll be trying to get some 160s per his suggestion.

The bike does seem to have a different attitude after the float bowl mod now. I'm excited to see how it runs when I get it tuned just right.

I've got my pilots set at 1.75 turns out. I need to recheck my float level, cause the bike surges a bit, and the idle won't stay at a set idle(that might just be cause I'm out of gas, the fuel pump won't stop running after I turn the key?).

Not sure what to do with those hoses that are in the intake passages(on the head), as the float bowl mod pretty much eliminated these, I think?

Any suggestions on any of these settings?

As of today, I have a brand new factory pro 1.0 kit coming in the mail, I don't think I'll be using those larger 180-190-200 mains they'll be sending me. If they won't let me send it back, I guess I'll have it up for sale?

MORE CARB INFO >FORRESTANG

Forrestang
I ran a 93 ZX-7 with stock carbs, 38mm with a factory jet kit, with 180 mains all the way across (all four carbs) needle clips in the middle position.
fuel mixture screws at 2 1/2 turns out and stock float height at 13mm

OK, now >if you are talking about removing hoses from the TOP of the head (the two fat ones in the middle of the valve cover)that go to the vacuum switch you will need to flip your reed valves over or buy some muzzy block off plates, or you can just get the switch out of your way altogether. cut the two hoses and face them towards each other and connect them together.
the small vacuum hose that makes that switch work goes down and hooks to the intake ports on the head #1 &# 4 take those off and cap off the two fittings were the hoses were taken off. that gets rid of the vacuum switch.

also plug the hole were the vacuum switch`s hose was running to the air box and you are set.
Again I do not know what hoses somebody told you to take off butt that is how you would eliminate the vacuum switch and all its connected hoses

There also is a vacuum valve ( the little ugly thing bolted to the right side of the frame above the valve cover with a hose going to your float bowl vents and the airbox, also disconnect the small vac hose at #2 intake port and cap it. IF you have taken this vacuum valve off the bike you will have to run the float bowl vents to the airbox or it will not take fuel !! you can tie the two together and just have one hose going to the air boxfrom the vents.

things to look for >> Make sure not to kink the float bowl vent tubing
Make sure your problem is not just a pinched fuel line as you know the 93-7 has the shock stud right where your fuel lines are under the tank believe me it can happen !! and shut down your fuel.

Do not know why your fuel pump will not shut off when the key is off unless somebody wired it directly to the battery.

I do know the pump WONT run if the relay is broken
you can jump around the relay to check it but it is best to keep the relay because if ever in an accident it will cut your fuel off for you if you cant
do it and you wont have to burn (or your bike)

Hope the info helped, need anything holler.
Rob
p.s. removing the valves and switches may not be legal for other than offroad conditions in your state. if your racing it I would also vent your crankcase to the atmosphere that would be the last hole to plug in your airbox.and run a hose from your crankcase vent to a catch can.
A nice 32oz Fosters beer can works great.vent the can on the upper end.

I've been trying to post replies, but for some reason, it keeps saying "invalid session?" I am logged in by the way.

That last post described exactly what I did! Althoguh after doing the float bowl mod, I've heard that u should be able to use smaller jets, like 160s. I just picked some up today. I do have a factory pro kit in already by the way, with 180 jets, all four.

Heres what I was trying to post earlier:

Since I last posted, I pretty much put everything to stock cause my bike was running funny. I just two days ago found the problem, and it was a vacuum leak, either due to the valve cover gasket, or the intake boots. I sealed them both up now, and the bike runs fine. So I will be re-doing the float bowl mod later. Need to see if I can find a valve cover gasket today.

Here is a link to the technical explanation of the float bowl mod, and why Kawasaki uses those large main jets, Mainly due to the different atmospheric pressure of the float bowls, and the airbox; Kaw did this cause of their using that egr valve, trying to reduce emisssions.

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/webzxr/zxr750r/index.html

Go to the link on the left side of the page that says, "Useful Info." Then scroll down to the links that say "float bowl mod." One is the technical info, the other is the illustrated guide to performing it.

When I try to find that gasket, I'll probably try to get some more jets too, 160s.

Forrest

There is more info about the stuff I read at that site.

I will be a bit delayed getting everything right, as I just found out that I have a slight miss. Number 2 and 3 header pipes aren't as hot as the other two. I'm hoping its the coil, wires, or maybe I accidentally didn't set my pilots exactly the same or something. I'm going to check compression while I"m at it.

Thanks,
Forrest

Thanks for the replies Bob.

I know what u mean about loosing all that info after typing. But after i couldn't post, I saved all that typing to my notepad, so later I could just cut and paste.

Oh, and I've been having to use my explorer a lot, my AOL has been acting up too.
