hanging revs

What causes hanging revs? I have read its a lean condition. Others say its a rich condition. I have made sure the slow jets and pilot jets were cleaned. The bike starts fine with choke. Take off choke and bike will drop to idle & continue to drop until bike dies. But blip the throttle bike reves fine, but it will drop down to 3k hang for about 5 sec then drop. Any Ideas?

Vacuum leak.

What Kawasaki are you running?

Is the bike stock?

When did bad idling start? Did it come suddenly or did the idle get progressively worse after a perioid of time?

The bike working somehow when the choke is on kinda hints that the the bike is running lean which probably means that there is a leak somewhere.

Easy and fast way to check that is to take a spray can of brake cleaner for example and spray it to the carb intake rubber thingies and nearby while the bike is running.

If there is a leak, the RPM´s should drop for a moment and then rise.

Also check that the all the hoses and rubber plugs are in their place and intact.

Or take the bike to a local shop.

I hope you find the problem.

When you talk about jets, you are talkin carbs. Check the slides. Make sure they ain't all scratched up and grooved. Make sure the carb bodies ain't the same. These sticking in the bodies will cause that. As stated, vacuum leaks can cause this. The throttle cable adjustment could be off. Throttle cable routing could be binding. Carbs not fully seated in the intake boots. Cracked intake boots. If vacuum slides, pin holes in the diaphrams. If mechanical, binding in the mechanics. Idle screw adjustment.

Could be a lot of reasons that your idle is hanging. Go thru them one at a time.

MY12r you may have found my problem! I took the caps off the carbs and removed the slides. on the backside of the slides there were scratches all over all of them. What causes this? How do I correct this? With the air box off the slides move up and down smoothly all in sync. Thanks for the help guys!

They wear like that over time. When they get that way, it's usually time to replace them. Check to make sure the carb bodies themselves ain't like that, or you may need to do a bit more work, and spend a bit more loot. You should be ok tho.

This may be your problem, and the only way to know is to either replace them or try and smooth them out without removing very much material....

Maybe. Better have a spare to practice on and use a super fine grit paper. You take too much off it won't work properly at all.
