Question new to the bike scene!

Whatssup everyone!

Im new to the bike scene and ive been around cars and tuning for quite a while now! i just got my hands on a 1995 kawasaki zx7r. Did a trade for a bodywork job so i didnt really pay the bike... This his how he looks now





Im planning in doing a full restoration/custom upgrades and i will eventually post a build thread up on this forum But first there is a small problem with the bike and i want to light up my path and find the problem to make the bike run before starting to take evrything apart...

What happened: The guy that had the bike before me drove it and the valve cover gasket popped out spreading oil everywhere... My question is what could have caused that to happenned?? too much pressur in the engine? vaccuum hose blocked? i looked on forum real quick and some people says it could be a stator problem on injection bikes...but mine is carburated any ideas??? it would be really appreciated if you guys could give me ideas!! PS: i have the service manual if it helps in any cases

I've personally never heard of a valve cover gasket popping out due to internal pressure or anything like that.

Cracked head prolly.If pressure from cylinders escapes it can damage parts like the radiator gaskets e.t.c....

I dont think anything is cracked.. I might be wrong but the bike cranks i just dont want to start it caus its empty of oil. When that happened the guy turned off the bike immediately and towed it home.. He didnt knew the problem until i bought the bike, removed the gas tank and air box and thats where i noticed the gasket wasnt in place anymore.. Any other ideas??

If its something too complicated il just start to take it apart and see more in depts what is going on :P i would have prefered to make it start before taking everything apart caus buying another engine is at the same time buying someone elses problems :\

If you suspect a head issue (and seriously the valve cover is not a pressure sealed area - there is plenty of places where pressure can escape from there IF it were to happen) do a compression test first.

If there is a head, head gasket or cylinder issue that will tell you in 15 minutes.

But what scares me is you say the engine is empty of oil.

What do you mean? Did he or your drain it? There is no way 3.5 quarts of oil is going to blow out of a valve cover gasket. It's not an oil pressurized area.

Nothing was drained i just called the guy! When i look at the level it seems empty so i guess il do the compression test to see whats going on.. Il keep you guys posted!

Before you monkey with anything, check the cover bolts. If they are loose, then there ya go. There's not many reasons there should be any pressure there really. If there's too much case pressure it will pressurize in there, as it's a direct path the the case via the timing chain galley. It's never a good thing with too much case pressure, even when caused by being overfilled with oil.

Whats up guys! Ok so i managed to reput my cover valve gasket and and im almost ready to put back oil in it and start it.. There is 2 places where im missing a hose and in wondering where to connect them..the guy before
Me might have lost them or something. The second photo is a plug on the airbox





I was also thinking that maybe a blocked pcv valve could have make my valve cover gasket to pop! Is it possible? Caus when it popped the guy was going like 250km/h loll

the big hose above already connects to the airbox.. does it need 2? plus the 2 holes arent even the same size...
