40K mi isn't terrible. More than most used sportbikes but not bad depending on the price, those miles can be a great bargaining tool for you to use to get some good money off. Hey anytime you buy used its a roll of the dice you never know 100% what your getting. All you can do it look it over best you can, get a good read of the previous owner, other than that it's all about how much your paying. Good luck!

Yeah 40 k could be a well maintained bike that will last for many tens of thousands more or a poorly maintained one that's about to quit.

Ride the bike, if it pulls hard I'd say ur OK as long as u get it at a much lower price than say the same bike with low miles...

If the Price is right I'd say go ahead.

Buying from the dealer the bike should be solid, especially if they did the full inspection.

Plus it breaks if there reputable they will help u out if it was something that passed there inspection then failed...

If it's the same model '02 as I/my wife had here in Aus it's a 636?

Great bike and the best one according to my wife, she even had a '06 636 for a short while (son has it now) but preferred the '02. As stated the high mileage (kms or miles?) shouldn't be a big problem IF well maintained. If you're able to find out the last owner through the dealer, if possible, you could contact him/her, I've done that in the past but I know not always able to get their entails from a dealer.

2K pretty damn cheap if it's as well sorted looking as you say. You don't get much for that kind of money.

Tuning wise what's best as I'm new to a zx6

Good on you for getting it! Long history of owners but so what, have fun now you have the "modification bug"

Apart from power commander, air filters and full exhaust system, anything else would be personal preference and only limited by money!

I'm sure others on this site or a zx6r specific site would be able to provide better info.
