It's the button a lap timer? I've seen them on the 636 but I am unfamiliar with them so it's just a guess.

The button is the start and stop for the lap timer, you need to cycle the trip setting on the guage to the timer to use it. As far as the oil you may have had a blocked line, this looks to be an older post hopefully you found a solution

So, as far as the bike artificially redlining lower, the zx6r has an adjustable rev limiter, however even after resetting the redline to 16k rpm it still proceeded to suffer from worsening symtpoms regarding the fuel injection, stopped taking wot etc....

Also the clutch started slipping but only when leaving the stoplight, shift to second full beans no slip, slipper clutch needed adjustment maybe?

Due to these facts and more, I sold the bike, got it at a steal, sold it for a steal.

Sorry I misread, yeah, the oil light on newer bikes always comes on until the engine it running. Glad to hear you got rid of it for a good price. I am working on a buddy's ZX6R and I am ready to take a shotgun to it. Unfortunately it's not mine so I cannot do that. I have never seen a bike with as many problems at one time as this one
