This is pissing me off

So I was having stator issues. Took off stator cover found broken wire. Replaced broken wire with a new wire. Ran bike and it still killed battery in the ride. Disconnected the stator checked the resistance. Two original wire reads .4 ohms the new wire i put reads 1.6 ohms. Would this cause a drain in my battery. Do I need new stator?

I have had my stator re-wound by a motorcycle auto electrician, with a lower gauge wiring as he said one issue is the stator soaks up too much heat from the alternator/rotor especially after a ride and sitting while bike is still hot and cooling down. Also have a Japanese MOSFET regulator/rectifier as it runs cooler. The connectors at the stator/reg end also help to eliminate the oil wicking up from the stator and causing cooking of the connector.

Having said that, I had to get the stator re-wound again after 3 years as it cooked again! the electrician said there are no guarantees with the stator even after re-wiring, but just less likely to cook.

It seems to be a bit of a lucky dip with some of the 12's - as others have not had the same amount of problems with them. If you can find a decent auto-electrician who had knowledge of the heating issues, then I would still recommend spending the $ to get it sorted.

Good luck!

Don.

These bikes run extremely hot at the stator. You increased the resistance it looks like. Harder to push electrons thru the wire at 1.6. Best bet is get a new stator, or rewind the one you got. It's easy nuff to do.
