My first ZX12-R

never had a busa or blackbird as I always said if I was going to buy a sports tourer would be a ZX12-R ,And iv'e finally done it, a black(blue) and gold 2002 model with 20k on the clock and in bog standard dress apart from heated grips and a carbon hugger. The only part of the bike I dislike is the titanium cannon stuck on the side of it ,I'm looking at a yoshimura rs3 bolt on, can anybody tell me if I can fit this without having to go down the road of fitting a power commander and having it dyno'd . I'm not looking to improve power or performance in any way just improve the looks and maybe sound a little meatier.
I'll post pics as soon as i've worked out how to

Hello mate and welcome to the site!

The Yoshi RS3 is a direct fitment and no need for tuning with powercommander etc. I personally think it is the best bolt on muffler you can get for the 12 - it sounds nice and deep at idle and with a good throaty sound through the revs, a good choice. It also is made so it snugs in at the tail end of the bike and gives a neat look.

You'll love the 12!

Don.

Going to be reeeelly cheeky here...

1. check kill switch hasn't been knocked on by accident

2. check clutch switch is operating properly

3. check side stand switch is operating properly

4. check operator is operating properly

Not meaning to be rude to you mate, even I have sometimes overlooked the obvious! But if all these points are correct, then you would possibly be looking at wiring/fuelling/charging issues maybe.

Let us know how you go!

Don.

Welcome Hos.
Yes the Yoshi is a good choice. I have a Blue Flame on mine at the moment and love the sound. I also have a Power commander to smooth out the running a bit better. The Bike sounds like it may have been a member's on here called Crispy Duck. Did you get it from Shrewsbury?

Hi Sion karr is your bike turning over when you hit the starter, in duck00's reply 1-3 the bike won't turn over if any of these art working the clutch is a funny one if you don't pull it in and the bike is in N it should start.
these bikes have been know to be a pain in the arse to bleed but it doesn't normally effect the engine craig

if anything goes wrong check the battery

I just picked up a 2001 ZX-12 R with 8200 on the odo for cheap. Looks brand new, always garaged. Part of a divorce settlement and the owner wanted it gone. Just put new tires and an oil change on it. The ride is awesome.

HI Hos yes it will work just fine, but if you fit an aftermarket air filter with i would advise get a custom map done. I have this exhaust fitted to my 12 but I have a K + N filter and a power commander, and a custom map for it. also got my exhaust from Calsport in Birmingham :)

Welcome. I have the Yoshi on my 04, and I agree with the earlier comment in that it sounds really nice. At first I thought I might replace it because Yoshi's are not known for an awesome/loud sound, but I guess the 1200 cc's of raw kawasaki power coming through actually does make is sound a lot louder/throatier than if the same pipe was on a literbike.

I loved my Yosh slip-on before I went to a full system (that I got on this forum for a deal I couldn't pass up). My only regret was cutting off the cat. I like the catalytic converter, it burns up excess exhaust fumes which takes away that "motorcycle fuel smell". If I was to do it again, I would have put the slip-on over the cat until I went full system. After a ride, even with a properly tuned full system, I can smell fuel on my clothes.

And lets face it, if you aren't racing this bike, removing a cat isn't really necessary as the bike is faster than eff to begin with.
