Lost Top End Power

I recently fixed a fuel leak by changing an O ring that was leaking in my fuel rail and now noticed a new problem. I noticed now that my 12R has totally lost its top end power. Bottom and mid range up to 8000 rpm its fast as normal but it falls flat on its face after 9000 rpm. Now I reassembled everything carefully and didn't forget to plug in and sensors so I'm thinking what the heck is going on? I'm gonna check to make sure I didn't kink a hose and that my boots are in good. Any other suggestions?

I double checked everything and found no kinked fuel lines also checked the boots on the throttle body are on tight and sealed. I checked my TPS and its ok closed throttle it reads about 1.0 and numbers increased slowly to max throttle 4.6. Also a friend of mine claims the PC3 needs an update every 1.5 years or so and thinks that could be the problem. Is there a way to check that vs the fuel pump/filter?

I'm going to take the pump out clean the filter and replace with a new pump. I have the option of buying a new one in town from a Motorcycle tuner that sells a "race pump" for 130$ or getting one from High Flow fuel a company that gives a lifetime guarantee and who claim "our pumps maintain strict QS9000 quality standards, and are flow tested by RC Engineering, the US's most respected fuel pump testing company." There pump sells for 60$ so I'm very tempted to buy it. Anyone have an experience with them?

Thanks for the advice..

I took my gas tank off and drained the fuel but when I took the fuel pump out I found what I think is rust or possibly in tank flaking. CRAP!! No wonder things are plugged up.
Now I'm looking at cleaning that out of my tank and possibly having to re coat it? Any suggestions here are welcome.. I see some people using vinegar and others using a sand distilled water combo. Anybody have tips on how to restore my tank?

Thanks!

Update..
I spent some hours cleaning the tank with evporust and it seems like its doing a pretty good job. Got the filter/fuel pump apart and I realize now that my new fuel pump has a plug instead of separate terminals. I think it will still work since I can cut and crimp the wires to the connectors provided. It looks like the kit "THE GAVEL" used successfully last year but not sure about his wiring. I see the strainer holder will need to be swapped to make it fit since it is rotated 90 degrees off the stock location. Anyone use this same setup who could chime in?

Ok I see...

I will buy a inline FI filter and some fuel line and connect it under the tank after i cut apart the black housing remove the crusty filter and glue it back together.

Do you have an idea as to the size of filter i need? Don't want one too small as it could restrict flow as well. Also who/where you found it?

I will do pics as well for someone to benefit from in the future.

Thanks.

Hi what you can do is buy some submersible fuel hose a tee piece and some clamps cut the black plastic filter housing up so it holds the pump in place, clamp a hose to the discharge end of the pump put a tee piece in line one end goes to the pressure release valve the other end to the discharge on the pump plate then get some more hose and put an inline pressure filter in line under the tank if you re route the line to the left side it is easier I just went to an auto shop bought a cheap filter for a v8 worked great Craig

You lost me after the T.

I am not sure where the pressure relief valve is ,(excuse my ignorance) I only see the pump discharge side going into the housing and then after the enclosed filter going out the tube at the bottom . I can't picture the hooking up a hose after the T to the pressure relief valve.

thanks for your help.. massive appreciation!!

others have cut the top off the filter housing and removed the filter re glued the top back on and install an inline fi pressure filter under the tank hope this works out for you try the cut and glue method first nothing to loose just a little time but find a good glue as this will be submersed in the tank Craig

Here is the update..

I cleaned the filter and reassembled. The bike ran better but as u said it bogged back down after less than a tank of gas. Last ditch effort i bought a used pump that came out of a beautiful clean wrecked bike with 17000 miles. No dice it was worse than mine. So i have come to the place where I will attempt surgery since I have no choice!(Stubborn I Know). I will cut today and hope the glue method will work but if not i will go submersible fuel line. My last question is cut the end or the middle? I have read someone had success cutting the middle and gluing but I want to have support to hold the pump in place in case it leaks and I do the hose instead. Also if I cut the top I want to avoid cutting close to the fuel pressure valve I assume but cut above it or below?

I will have pics of the surgery. Hopefully this works!

Near the top of the stock filter there appears to be an area that looks like it has been sealed by epoxy. I have pealed it away with a paring knife and tomorrow I will try to cut into it to see if it will open up. It almost looks like there is a little plastic hinge if you look closely. I had to work today but tomorrow I will open that sucker up and take pics.

Stay tuned..
