2000 12r clutch basket

...I have been thinking about picking up another A1. I still have my zx9r, which is still running strong. I have a chance to trade my xr650l, which I kind of lost interest in for a 2000 zx12r.
...It has 29,000 miles on it and still has the stock basket in it. Will a clutch basket and clutch out of a 2002+ 12r fit without issues?
Thanks

From my understanding, yes. It's supposed to be a tad better. But if you're going through the work, just buy a billet and be done with it.

Correct me if I'm wrong,

I thought the 'A1' basket was fine for standard road use,

edit: I know the 'B' model baskets are stronger

And only needs changing if you're going up the strip on a regular basis.

edit: Which you would do with the 'B' model basket as well.

Thanks Dave.

I remember hearing years ago about some oiling issue with the old stock clutch set up? Cant remember the details, or if it was even true, but was there not an issue with not enough oil getting at the clutch/hub?

Anyway, I've got a complete clutch/basket from my 05 for sale if you're interested.

KZScott did a mod a number of years ago, link Here

My A1 clutch seems fine,
I don't go up the strip,
And have put 50,000 miles on it myself, over the years I have looked after it.

Thanks Dave.

My A1 was never raced at the strip..and the basket self destructed. I drove it hard...but no where near as hard as other bikes in the past. After owning about 30 bikes in my life...the 12r is the only one that had a basket issue. Hell, I bought a new gsxr1100 once and drove the supreme piss out of it from day 1. One day when practising at a vacant 1/4 mile strip I ran non stop runs for about an hour. So much pressure/heat built up that it blew off an oil line for the oil cooler.
...I was changing the clutch every 3-4000 miles. It survived for 42,000 miles with no bearing issues ect. Until I sold it. Not even that bike had a basket issue. And I drove it a hell of a lot harder than the A1. If I buy another 2000 or 2001 12r....the basket is definitely being changed.

Buy or trade for the A1. It really is the fastest bike you can get for the money.

The stock basket usually can handle decent abuse. I think the thing that kills most of them is any kind of hot lapping. I ran my stock basket with full mods at the strip a few times. I can say I never launched at 9000 rpm though...
