oil pressure?

2002 ZX12-Changed the oil/filter in the fall, filled with 5W-30 to store. Started but oil pressure light would not go out? I changed the opil again but light stayed on?? Left till the spring-started the bike today-still no change. I then installed a new OEM oil pressure switch-light still stays on!!! Any thoughts? Thanks

oil pressure?

No-however oil came out at the switch when I changed it. Therefore it seems as though there should be proper oil pressure??

This is a well documented situation.

Do a search on "oil pressure". The cure is to open the oil filter a bit while running the bike. Apparently there is an air pocket type situation near the sensor.

Read the articles because I don't remember if you need to loosen the filler cap or not.

I've seen this here with four or five different guys, every time it was air locked.

Also, I highly recommend pre-filling the filter. It works well and doesn't make a mess.

Yes.

Go up to the top of this page, and click on search.

Enter "oil pressure" or "oil light" or whatever you want to search for. It works well.

Since are a fairly new guy, here is the link you are looking for:

oil pressure?

Finally 'burped" the engine, and low and behold the light is out! I trust no engine damage from starting 8-10X and idled for 10-20 seconds?
Thanks for all the assistance-far better asking here as 2 dealers had absolutely NO ideas.

FWIW - my understanding is the engine is not being starved of oil when this happens, only the pressure switch.

I.e: Sleep sound tonight, your engine is fine.

As for the two dealers who had no clue about this? We've known about it here for like a year.

Kind of makes you wonder, eh?
