Had a look at my reg/rec, stator connector today and, whilst I'm no expert, I can say it was fubared! Connector had a melted hole in the side and the wires showed signs of heat on the insulation and I couldn't get the connector apart so I pulled the wires out each end. There wasn't a lot of plastic left to hold the spade connectors in anyway.
Then, thanks to the info on here, I hard wired the wires together so it's all good. I think for piece of mind, I'll fit a Mosfet reg/rec and wire the battery direct to it so to cut out all the connectors, and I'll look at replacing the stator wires too.
also, I wasn't sure if I had signs of oil in the connector or it was just the black melted plastic?. It didn't feel oily.
