Who all lives in the salt lake area with a 12? There was a thread on this a while ago but I figured it was a little old.

There are quite a few. I live in the avenues, almost_les is in West Valley, UTZX12R is somewhere in the greater Ogden area, and there's two or three more that don't frequent KW.

we almost have enough people for a mini-rally. There was talk last summer about getting together for a ride but it never came about.

maybe if we start planning now we could get one going before the end of summer. It would be nice to ride with something other than harleys.

I fully intend on running at rmr at least once this summer. I live about 5 minutes up 5600w from there. If I do go there look for the goofy redneck thats uncomfortable in leather pants(unless I don't run over 120 mph right).

Seems like we're all pretty close. I'm up for a ride.

Had mine out last week for a short spin. Felt good.

Memorial Day weekend at Miller's ought to be a good time this year...

Ah come on the hd guys aren't that bad. My whole family rides harleys and I used to. I just want to go on a ride where it's more than just riding the highways somewhere and stopping at the bars along the way, damnit I wanna turn.

I like the HD guys, thats why i ride with them. But they dont usually keep the pace that I would prefer through the twisties. Especially If they have thier women on board. But more than that I have never road with another 12.

I'll second the Wolf Creek idea. That'll give me a chance to see that black beauty in person. Just have to wait a bit for the snow to clear off.

2nd and 3rd gear only and full throttle ;) out the corners not in the corner..Than you're next to the road.

I know the basics, steady throttle through turns, rarely use brakes in corners, and roll on the throttle coming out of a corner don't snap it like I used to to on harleys. the harleys would stand up and go, the 12 will do a big rolling burnout(fun when you do it on purpose).

wolf creek is a great place to start. Perfect road surface, very little traffic, no cops, and engineered corners (no decreasing radii ect).

go for the pants. bone stock i hit 135mph first pass. hell, i can do 124 on a 600

most the time they are a little more complacent during the midnight drags, but you never know when you're gonna find a tech in a bad mood, so its best to come prepared. we usually show up around 8pm to get race numbers and tech inspection. racing doesn't start until 11 so there is tons of time for socializing/shit-talking and going on food runs. if you wanna meet up sometime and head down, i live just off 5600 right by the fitness center.

and be prepared to run a lot slower than you expect your first time out. altitude combined with lack of experience make for some depressing timeslips. low elevens are average for new guys with big bikes, tens are pretty good, and if you get in the nines at all, you're rolling with just a handful of streetbikes.

I was kidding about the 120 mph thing. It would be cool to have somebody thats been to rmr before so I'll give you a shout in a couple months when I'm ready. I'm pretty realistic so I was planning on running mid 10's. My bike is extended 5", lowered, drag strut that came with the bike that i can toss on in minutes, 17 tooth front, pc3, k and n, muzzy slip on but I'm looking at hindle step tube, and I've ran it on the street with a shinko stealth with just a small burnout with good results. I'm at 250 lbs without suiting up so I'm not looking to smash any records.

i realy hope you have a billet clutch. if not, you're sitting on a time bomb. my stock basket was cracked when i took it abart and upgraded for a billet one. that was with me weighing in the low 130's. and i have a local friend that blew up two stock ones before he finally went with a billet basket. seriously, get one if you dont have one already.

Looks nice! Dig the Satriani too.

Big & open with good sight-lines - big bikes like the 12 should just gobble that up. I'd love to get out West and do some riding someday.

the guy I bought my bike from told me it has a muzzys clutch. In the big box of parts that came with it there was the old clutch and the basket had two of the little posts busted off.

Even better and up in my back yard. I took a couple of friends from out of town on their 09 'busas for spin up there last summer. Was fun watching them disappear in my mirrors.

Count me in for sure.

The trick is avoiding traffic in Logan canyon. For best results we should have a "call in sick" ride and head up some idle Tuesday morning.

I always have at least one day off during the week. I work 12 hours 3 or 4 days a week so I'm on board for a day ride, I got some brand new pilot power 2cts to try out.

Excellent, I'm in the same boat. I have a hate-hate relationship with my hospital hours.

That Wolf Creek road looks sweet.

Later on this year once I get some stuff settled up, I plan to take some long rides.. may just toss the bike in the truck and show up in your neck of the woods!

Either that, or one of my buddies wants to ride up and experience Yellowstone so who knows...

yellowstone is a great ride. Timing is everything in summer thoug. You wouldn't want to get stuck in a harley parade.

For those in the great state of Utah......click here for a ride idea.

It would be at the longest a two day ride to meet us in Idaho at the start of Lolo Pass, or just come up for Beartooth or YNP segemnts.

whens the earliest time of year to shoot up parly's? I've never really paid attention to when the snow melts off. Wheres a good road locally that I can go practice a bit and try to get rid of the strips on my new 2cts?

you'll have to take parley's at 120 to get rid of your strips. Remember that temp decreases 10 degrees with every 1000 feet you ascend.

whats wrong with 120 up parleys? I was thinking that during summer when i'm getting off work at 4 am i could jet up there at a "brisk" pace. Traffic wouldn't be there but the deer still would be an issue.

I dunno, the combination of wildlife, cops, and traffic dissuades me every time.

Just learn how to "late apex" and you can scrub the strips at 30..

I would find a sand-free parking lot to play around in. Late apexing is only going to open the door to target fixation.

maybe I'm a little unclear, could you guys explain late apexing? I'd like to think I'm pretty decent with where my eyes go.

The basic idea of late apex is to wait farther into the turn, and make one hard cut... as opposed to the wide-tight-wide race line. So for slower speeds you make a harder, more aggressive move, farther into the turn.

Takes more focus, more determination, and more skill then the normal sweeping turn. On the street, I basically roll deeper into the curve, and once I see where the road is headed, make a single, hard turn. It takes you away from being on the center line on left handers especially.

The bad thing, if someone behind you isn't aware of what you are doing, is they can be sucked in way too deep in the turn and end up running wide if they aren't up to the task.

Hey SS, is that your bike in your avatar? If so, we need to get that thing back to stock wheelbase!

Like TL said, the idea is that you want to hold off on making your turn. So, for a right turn/curve, you'll hug the centerline of the road and delay as long as you can before making your deliberate and harder lean to the right. For a left turn/curve, you do the same thing the other direction, hugging the right side of your lane before diving in.

Why do this? For street riding, it's primarily safety. By staying to the outside of the turn as long as you can, you get the best view of the turn and what's ahead - oncoming traffic, decreasing radius turn, switchback, debris in road, etc. You'll see it sooner by delaying your apex. What's more, because the bike is not leaned all the way over yet, you're in a MUCH better position to make adjustments based on what you saw ahead.

Think about it, if you stick to the inside of the turn and already have it leaned over, you're going to be surprised when that next blind turn turns out to be of the decreasing radius variety. You'll already have used up much (most? all?) of your available lean angle - not much left you can do other than blow the turn and hope you get away with it, or grab the brakes and stand it up. Not a comfortable feeling, to say the least.

BTW, those diagrams would be better if they had some arrows showing the direction of travel. Those are intended to show a left turn.

For aggressive street riding.. it's a good idea to become very familiar with your brakes and using them in the turn.. you don't have to stand the bike up but you damn sure better know what you are doing...

I want to put it back to stock. The battery is in the swingarm so I'll need a stock battery and I think I can take some links out of my chain and keep the extended brake line. i like the way it looks extended and it handles pretty good, but I hate the chincy ass bolt on extensions.
