pitbull front stands

hey fellas, just got a good deal on a pitbull front stand. the kind that uses a pin to lift up near the ram air. when i jack the front up though, the top of the stand rubs the bottom of the ram air a little. it pushes it up a tiny bit. i don't think its enough to crack it though. anyone else experience this?

Yep, I have a lockhart Phillips front stand that does the same thing. It has marked the underside, but it has not cracked it. Don't worry about it too much

My pitbull stand gets close, but does not touch the ram air cover... Either way as stated I woudln't worry unless you see it moving much. Touching is fine, no one will ever be looking under there anyway.

Are you positive you have the right pin?

With the right pin it's close but does NOT hit.

And be sure to push the pin in the correct placement and hold it there with one hand while pushing down on the lifting arm with the other. This way it wont move around and possibly break something when you lift the bike.

Another good idea is to put a towel on the fender until you have the process down pat. The lift works well, but the clearance is tight and if you don't have the pin seated completely you _will_ scratch the fender.

Or worse, crack it... I still put something there, usually a plastic bag. The good thing with the pitbull pin stand is that they put that rubber coating on it.

I've been using this for a couple months; Front head lift on ebay. Does not touch the ram air intake or fender, plenty of clearance. And only $55.

I am thinking the pin socket must be at the wrong angle on mine, because it won't go with the fender on... guess I need to do some eyeballing and fire up my mig....

this is the one I have; I liked that it came with all the pins so could be used on multiple bikes..

Is your bike lowered (either with straps or by moving the stanchion tubes)?

If so that moves the steering head down and reduces the clearance. Geometry can be a bitch...

My 00 is lowered, but not the 02.. had the problem on the 02. No way it's getting in there on the 00....

But I will take it apart, and see what I can see about changing the angle... may be I can get it to the point it will work on both bikes...

i had the busa pin, and it worked but it pressed against the ram air. then i went back and bought the zx12 pin [f0001-002t #2 tall]. this pin is straight with no bend in it. so it want fit in the hole. do i have the right pin now? someone experience this? maybe i still have the wrong pin
