I had to let off around 130 but dame that thing is fast. Im figuring ill blow by him after that but does this sound right ? i have about 80 lbs on him. Some day when I get him out on the high way ill know for sure but all I can say is either my 12 is junk or the new 600s are crazy !!!

The CBR 600 is a fast bike, but your 12 should still be able to pull it even with 80 lbs "equalizing ballast", IMHO...

What are your shift points?? The 12 likes to be wound pretty tight, ya know...

Amen to that!
Assuming it's a roll-on, keep the rpms at about 7-8000 before the start.

If a 600 is close to your 12 either something is really wrong or you are not riding the bike. I mean I can pull away from a 600 about like my buddies turbo Busa can pull away from me.

As others have stated, your not riding properly and not using your 12s power...
I agree that latest 6's are quite fast but its still gona be a while yet before any 6 can hang with 12r on an open road.

Have another go with him and show who's boss....

Slip him a Mickey before you ride and give him a kung-fu chop on the front wheel when he's next to you.

Or.... twist that thing attached to your right arm harder.

A 12 will walk away from just about any bike on the road when driven with enthusiasm. ;-)

I'm certainly no expert on racing, but like Connman said make sure your rpm is at least up around 7500 before you hit the next gear. I know that my bike really wakes up around 8000. Everything over that is usually sort of a blur

Having a 180 pound weight disparity requires that you start in the right gear at the right RPM.

Im shifting at 11 k and we started from about 10 mph. Ill get a chance again to try him soon. Ill try him from a roll on in 1st. Ill keep her at about 7 - 8 k then we will see how the 600 will do. Im sure hes braging it up on how his 118 hp beat a 180 hp zx 12.

My riding buddy has a 07 600rr, it does pull rather well with his 120 lbs compared to which my zx-12r has to deal with my 200 lbs, i remember riding with another agroup of new 600's that got quite a head start on a good stretch only to see my 12 reeling them hard at about 150mph and blowing by

whatever hate i have for my 12 in heavy traffic, it makes up for it on the open road its a happy bike at 100+mph

at 10 mph with our gearing vs a new 600 with its lower gearing i can see you not getting ahead a lot unless you clutch it and get the reves up some while on a roll in first. after all someone that knows what he is doing can get 10.40 or better at the track.

I matched a GSX-R1000 all the way to 140 before we ran out of road :), but the other week went down some lanes against a CBR600 and strugglked to keep up, but he did know the lanes which helps, I ended up pilling into corners way to fast lol.

He is "braging it up" because he was lucky... and there is no way a 600RR puts out 118bhp....

IMO, there is no way a 600rr can take a 12r ... The 12s torque will eat it alive from any gear.
Most 600s are (compared to the 12) guttless in low revs, they have to be rev'd hard and i think when you raced him he was sitting at high revs and you was in the wrong gear at low revs..

Woop his ass...

I come out of 9 onto the front strait and the instructors race preped r1 (early 00's) cant even stay beside me, so I'm thinking your doing something wrong...

The stock or nearly stock 600's behind us are about 20-30 bikes back by the chicaine, so... roll it on at 7-8 and shift at 12-12.5

(although I'm only 5'11" 205)

PS... mine is also stock gearing and a 530 chain... if I was -1/ and a 520 it would be a positively stupid margin of arse whuppin'

I have to agree with all of the above. I have a riding buddy who is lighter and riding a 2008 GSXR600 and he can flog it all he wants he never gets a jump on me if I am paying attention... And even if he catches me snoozing as soon as the 12 hits 8K+ in ANY gear I leave him in my wake.
I have to say he trys hard. Not long ago I walked away from him and lit it up to a little over 160. I dropped throttle and sat up and the poor (and temporarily stupid)bastard almost ran into me.
Top of my list when running with friends (from no on) is to give a little brake light as a warning. LOL.

Shift at 12 k on tach. I had a guy I know try to race me on piped gixxer 600 and I missed 2nd, played with him, rolled in and out of the gas, then embarrassed him in 3rd and 4th. Come on and give her some gas! (I am not trying to be mean, just pullin your chain a bit but its true!)

hi, seen thread, beautiful day today here, so me and mate with a 2008 gsxr750 been out to do a bit of testing. with even revs in any gear as soon as i hit about 8k he was history, even if i pulled a gear higher he was no where to be seen. we tried all sorts and the result was the same, must get rid of the 200 back tyre though, had a real job keeping up on the really twisty bits.

I can honestly say the ZX pulls harder from 150 than the Bandit does from 80

that extra 50 hp and gearing is certainly helping...

A 600? Please. I ride with all types of 1000s. When they take off, I let em get about a 1/2 block ahead of me, put my chin on the tank, say a quick prayer, then I twist. I LOVE reeling them in like dead fish. Not much of a fight. There is no way a 600 should see anything other than your taillights. Tuck yer skirt in son and let her rip. She's faster than you think.

There is no feeling like holding a ZX12 wide open through the first three gears, its like sitting astride a bullet train. Ive owned a ZX9, SL1000 and still have a GSXR1000 - none of them pull as hard as the 12 at full noise. The only way a 600 would keep up is with rocket boosters.

My wife Rides a 2009 zx6r monster edition and we went on a ride the other day. We have this hill thats long steep and straight maybe about 1/4 mile and we always hammer the throttle at the bottom and let off about 3/4 of the way to the top.
Well after reading this thread I decided I was going to see how it matched up . So we came out of the last turn and we headed up the bottom of the hill I WAITED for her to get on on it then I tried to reel her in . Lets just say there was no contest I was in second gear maybe 6000 rpms when she was already accelerating away. I gave it about 85 % throttle and caught her and passed her like nothing and we still had alot of hill left before I backed off. I asked her at the gas station we stopped at and she said she had it pinned and couldn't believe how easy I caught her and passed her....now that being said I have ridden the bike and its fast if you have it in the power curve which I am sure she didn't start in , but given I have a hundred pounds on her and she had a head start ....not seeing how a cbr is going keep up with a zx12r and my bike is bone stock.
