i see 100/80 and 60/55 watt bulbs it seems like 5000k is most common probably for a reason? can i run the 100 watt or is that too much for the wiring or alternator? thanks

I have never used any higher wattage on my 12 but since they use a plastic lens I would be careful. Brighter=more heat with an H4 bulb. Plugs can melt and possibly the lens. HID would be the way to go but they have their own issues for th econversion kits and non HID lenses.
There is a formula for how much the lights will draw from the charging system but i don't know it off hand. That will tell you if the charging system can handle it.

I've used the 100/80 on a previous bike. Worked okay, but some others had problems with the plug melting. Did make a great difference invisibility at night, though. I've had good luck with Silver Stars in my cars. Not sure if they make a bulb to fit the Kaw, but if they do, they are well worth the money. Nice bright, white light.

My vote is silverstar ultra's. Not as bright as HID but work well enough for the vast majority and you don't have to worry about melting anything.

04 10R - Mostly stock
SR-71 - Gone but not forgotten...

My Hi beam is out so I need to replace the bulb, reading this thread has left me more confused.

I dont want to wire anything, I just want a replacement bulb that is good for night riding that wont melt anything!! Not even a chance of melting anything. What bulb can i safely run without any risk that will safely yield a little better than stock lighting?

Im assuming some of you did a HID conversion?

If you plug is fine...there is nothing to "WIRE" going to HID's. Just plug in and turn on. Thats it. WR

Here is a pic of my headlight assembly sitting on my tore down bike. Their is NO other lights on in the garage. The house across the street is more than 100ft away. They cast a serious light. Just carefully aim them and you will have no issues with oncoming cars and you'll have tons of visibility.

Plus they look sweet....

Still love my 12R.
