Calling out CRAZI....ZX-9R vs ZX-12R!!!!

You heard right hommie...lets go play this weekend....we're making a gearing change on the 9R and should be higher than the 165.8 we ran last time...which will be near your 169 pass eh?

Come on ... bar end to bar end, no solo pass crap. This should be TOOTH AND NAIL! And don't bring that parachute textile crap! We can bring a laptop this time too ;-)

Got a good place to mount the GPS too!

I'M PREDICTING I PUT 6 BIKES ON YOU AT THE TRAPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! COME ON...AND OLD ASS 98-99 MODEL ZX-9R WITH A PIPE AND SPROCKET CHANGE...NO BIGGEE!!!!!

i should warn you before you go out trying to run a zx-9r! there's one around here with a bunch of work done to it that i raced. i ended up missing the 3-4 shift and hitting the rev limiter pretty hard. still spanked him so bad it was hard to tell if he was racing or not, so you might end up taking a hit to your reputation if there are any spectators that think you're just another big-bike bully flying by the casual rider.

If an old ZX9 beats a 10r, 12r, or 14, it was given to them because the rider on either one of those 3 bikes must not know how to quick shift or ride in general. Sorry, it's true.

Also, nobody should be racing top-end on that country road in that video. Talk about a death trap. Maybe one day a deer will stop it. Atleast do it on an open road and not one with woods lining both sides.

Ninja Nick, since you haven't been on that road before I think you are a bit ill equipped to judge the road. Anything can happen in a top end run, we all understand the risks and run accordingly.

To each their own. It's just a useless to increase the risk from what I see when you can find a road where you can see out to the left and right so you know if somethings coming instead of being blinded by trees and surprised at 180+mph. I love speed and hit the limiter a lot, but I myself wouldn't risk it on a road crowded with trees to where I couldn't see if any animals are about to shoot out in front of me. I guess that's where you and I are different then. Be safe. Peace.

I don't care what bike you're on, displacement, hp, or badging does not effect the GPS. I've seen a modified 998cc ZX-10R and piped stock engine GSX-R1000 crush a fully built 1397 Busa in the 9/10th's. (I put the vid on youtube)

I say with Ali's weight, skill, experience... an "old" ZX-9R is a good match-up with a new racer at Walter's weight on a piped ZX-12R, especially when both are running within a few mph on GPS.

Shiphteey, those trees also raise some concern with me. It might be a good idea to have all the guys ride normally down the "strip" one time and make a lot of noise to scare away any curious animals that may decide to cross the road during a run. Is it necessary? No. What are the chances of hitting something? maybe 1/1,000? A quick "scarecrow" run might bump the odds to 1/10,000. Worth the 2 minutes IMHO and it shows others that you are taking precautions and not just rolling the dice blindly.

You're the king of your local spot, if you set good examples, others will follow it and it will become routine.

We always do a shakedown run through there @ the speed limit (which takes FOREVER!) Usually take a quiet stock piped bike down at low RPM looking for the fuzz, then a louder bike "sets up" down at the end, then we wait for the call:

SIX bikes!!! Hmmm what is that like 36 feet? Hmmm... Is this your attempt at making Crazi smoke the crack of top end speed? Cause I don't won't that monkey on my back mang... I mean look what its done to you. ;-)

"Ok who's up next?"
"Man we just had like 6 passes."
"Naw man, we gotta run one more..."

Sound familiar... LOL

I heard a lotta caw caw....is you in mang?!?! LEZDOIT!!!!!!!!

Power to weight ratio you're got EASILY OVER 40 RWHP over the 9R...probably closer to 50 as this is the older one untuned.

TOTAL weight difference between bike/rider vs bike/rider...eh....200 lbs?

Bust out the calculator, you got the advantage when it comes to the very end, NOT ME!!!! If we had closer to a 30 HP difference it would be closer...but 40-50 HP variance and you being geared DOWN while I have to gear UP and run in the 12's element...about a full mile!!!!!! Come on now dawg, you'll reel me in at the end...right?

Cuz if you don't.....well lets just not go there!

Come on man... Dat ain't not my element...
But... I reserve the right to lose and still be a member of this forum... ;-)

In other words, I ain't in it to win it. I am in it to have fun. Learned from my car racing days... Being the fastest means having some pretty deep pockets when things start breakin.

I'm a twisty turnin, back roadin type. My goal is to get a suit and start hitting a few track days next year. Rather than twist the throttle, tuck in and hang on... I wanna twist the throttle, let off, grab the brakes, turn in, ease back on the throttle, and power out while passing some dude on a smaller supposedly more agile bike.

Nothing against the crack you are on but the cocaine I am choosing is just as addictive...

That was funny.

That was cool that you agreed w/me a little phantom. It makes sense to do that in my opinion. Wish I lived near you guys to do some of that shit. We have nothing up here, but a 1/4 mile and a road race course.

I was crunching a few "paper" numbers, and came up with this:

1998 ZX-9R weight with pipe 445 lbs. Rider suited weight 130 lbs.
HP 132
Power to weight: 1 hp/4.356 lbs.

2007 ZX-14 weight with pipe 540 lbs. Rider suited weight 225 lbs.
HP 175
Power to weight 1hp/4.371 lbs.

Now I don't think anyone would expect this particular 9R to run with the 14. And it won't. But this is a good example of how power-to-weight is not a good indicator of real-world performance (especially in a top end race)....nor are "paper" numbers.

In this case, vs. the 12, Ali has a good shot at winning. His ET will likely be quicker, and top speed very close to what the other rider has run on GPS. Factor in his light weight and experience, and I predict he takes it at the finish (at least once!) with the 12R gaining.

Yep! When does wind resistance become a factor? About 120mph? You'll hit that early in the race. After that, the extra torque of the big-bore will help against the wind resistance and the power/weight won't be such an issue, I'd guess.

Go for it Crazi!

I'm is onlies uh liddel Crazi... I dun seen "Worlds Scariest/Wildest Moments" one 2 meny tyms...

I luvs da zoom zoom cuhmurshall twisties... I don't kur bout dat revolution limiter in sixth...

In all honesty though, top speed is fun just not my objective. I woulda got the 10r if I could have fit comfortably on it for extended periods. Sitting on the bike on the showroom floor for 15 mins was uncomfortable... Sat on the 12r for the first time and felt instantly comfortable.

(Cue the violin music...) I was ready to move up from the Z1000 as my first bike and was looking at the 10r to replace it as the next logical step. Every season I decided to wait because I wanted to be sure I was ready. When I finally was, I started sitting on the bikes for extended periods as I said and none of the liters felt "all day" comfortable to me. I was ready to pull the trigger anyway until I saw a 12r one day and decided to try sitting on it. The rest is that oft used catch phrase...

Come on MAAAAAAAAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bigger is always better!

An ugly, monoblock headlight, carbed 9R with a chunk missing out the corner of the upper and windscreen!?! One who's exhaust system is a mix of who knows what brands...dented in too!!??! Who knows how old those wheel bearings are! Lord knows it has trouble with 750s...it just sucks all around! My personal favorite is the ill fitting tinted windscreen that's gotta be robbing 1 bike length with the gap remaining against the upper!

Its a POS that deserves to be defeated! Especially when a loudmouth punk gets on the board and calls you out...insulting your integrity! It is your duty to defend your honor!

Do you know how many people on the board want you to shut me up! They're sick of my rantings & ravings & ramblings & racing & retardedness!

Do it Crazi, pull the trigger and be a winner!

(If I jumped on a non-stock 636 would you consider it...just curious....)

What??? You mean you guys actually think this will shut him up?!? You guys REALLY don't know him... LOL

Here's the way I see it... We race and I win. I'll have to race him again because we will have to race one more time for the tie breaker. The last time, I had on a full two piece winter suit though so it doesn't really count. But chasing is racing...

I have no issues with backing down from a race though so if anyone wants to take my place, have at it... I've proved what I set out to prove on my bike.

PS
Shiph, you and I know this is eventually going to happen anyway but I can't do it this weekend. :-(

Nope, haven't started playing with it yet. I'm trying to take care of a bunch of little things that I've put off on the bike. I'd like to make the nitrous install/setup the last thing I do... but I'm flexible if the spray suddenly becomes a priority.

Haha, Crazi you're right, I have a disease...addiciton...whatever its called. I can't help it.

T-12 and Phantom would probably be a good run actually. It ain't like T-12 hasn't had the speedo burried on his bike "in the name of science". If this were to go down I would imagine Phantom would jump out pretty good given his set-up and seat time ... but the T-12 will be hard to hold off up top. It isn't a garden variety, ad-hoc, hodge podge turbo system. Streetable from what I hear with reliability in mind.

Sounds about 1/2 way to me.

Anytime you feel like making it to an event, let me know. It's a great time and there is no better proving ground than the Maxton Mile.

Probably not enough to go 229, but that wasn't their goal. Big nitrous bikes don't always hold up and are hard to hotlap or keep beating up on. Often times you build it strong but you're cramming so much HP into the motor that it just lets go at the end. The 9/10ths boys are after quick ... just like the 1/4 guys...the fast tends to be a byproduct....like Maxton. Fastest Nitrous bike at Maxton would probably not last at the 9/10ths after a couple of passes.

Personally I've found the Ace guys quite helpful and insightful with tips as well as hospitality. We bounce things off of each other...often times I think its a matter of what you end up bringing to the table. If you ask them a million questions and have nothing to contribute then it kinda has them on guard...like a one way relationship. But if you go out there risking your own life, liberty, money, motor etc just to beat the next guy at speeds around 200 mph their tends to be a bit more comaradery I think, especially with a real world follow-up report.

I've shared some info I've gathered with them and compared notes that way. Even then am I not really privy to all the nitty gritty...but then again I don't pry much with them either. There are things you pick up when you go out battling it out with others head to head up top time and again.

hahahha, no, no tuning tips needed...the bike pretty much manages itself.

i am looking more for what i need to do to pass tech. some riding tips, mostly on the launch, wouldn't hurt either. fast i can do, fast in a confined space requires experience i don't have...yet

yeah, you have the good NLR stuff in there, you are set.
you will have to safety wire a ton of stuff. a set of 4 over swingarm extensions and a strap would really help you get rolling without reaching for the sky

I really hope someone turns it up and runs 229. no offence to Guy, but hes on a busa

something else for everyone to look into. surface discharge plugs. Ali, Mike you guys listening? no electrode to heat up and cause a dangerous hot spot. we dont want melted parts in our beautiful 12R engines

Enough for 220mph, which is one of the objectives behind "The Shinobi Experiment".
