| Standard can with cat removed
G'day all. Untill I can afford an aftermarket muffler for my 12 I was wondering if removing the cat would make any difference to the exhaust note, im not really after H.P. gain just a slight noise gain, the sound of the standard ZX-12 exhaust pathetic. Cheers.... Dave....

It will make a moderate difference in the sound but don't expect too much. The best way to remove the cc is with a sawzall. Brace the pipe from the bottom with a half round cutout of a stick of plywood, have your buddy steady the pipe and zip off the cc at its base where the brazing is and if your careful it will cut right off without damaging the cc. Then if for some crazy reason you need to reinstall it you'll have it sitting on the window sill! Best way to get better sound is to remove the cc and add a decent aftermarket pipe. I like the Yosh rs3 (race) but there are other good pipes available. Once you change the exhaust, change the air filters and then add the Powercommander so your bike doesn't start running too lean. Have fun and post some pics as you do your modifications. |

P.S. I even went as far as to cut out the first baffle and drill the hell out of the second one. When i did that it was a VERY slight change, and all it did was make it a bit raspier. I really like how open sounds tho. So im building a custom design gp style.

Thanks guys, after an extensive search on the web I found this gold mine of info, this must be y2k mods that KZScott mentioned. http://www.zx11.info/zx12r/various/12rmods.doc Thanks for posting the pic barjout, I will start out by drilling a few holes if its not loud enough I will drill some more, not sure that I will be as aggressive with the drill as you where barjout. I don’t want it to sound offensive, just to hear something would be nice. If motorists cant see me then its better that they can hear me

i installed the program you sent me, but still no luck, the mod link opens then another window opens infront of it, asking for user name, initials, organisation and a 25 caracter product key. this window covers the mod list and wont let me move or minimise it.

when you click on the link the download file box should pop up giving you the option to save or open the file if somthing asking for a product code pops up then that is odd! without seeing your computer it is hard to say what the problem is
