i am having a knocking noise whaen by bike is cold it seems to go away as it warms up. it sounds like it is coming from the bottom end from the clutch cover and from the crankcase. when it warms up it get quieter and possibly even goes away. i am kinda leaning toward a balance shaft problem. anybody else had this problem?

ok, i just figured out my noise. i took the clutch cover off again and removed the entire clutch assembly. started it momentarily (less than 3 seconds)and no noise. great not engine related :D . put the inner basket on (that i bought new not more than 3 weeks ago) and fired it up...noise back. not one to jump to conclusions i took the oil pump drive gear off the back of the basket and fired it up again. noise still there; not the oil pump. well at least i figured out this noise as its been driving me crazy for the last week. now to find out if they will give me another one  thanks for all your input.

KNOCKING

I hate to be the one to alarm you but you might won't to check that out before you cost yourself more than you are willing to spend. Had the same problem with mines on initial startup it knocked some on the the bottom but after heating up it stops. Those are bearing problems more than anything else my motor locked up had to have the crank worked at APE and buy a new set of cases. Save yourself some money and tear it down to be safe just my thoughts and from my experience.
