New Owner

I am the proud new owner of a 1999 zx11. I have been riding for a few years now and this is the bike that I have wanted. I am a pretty decent rider, but not that well versed on bike repair. Luckily, I know an ace mechanic. I know the basics, like tune ups, chain lubing, brakes and oil changes. Is there anything else I can do on my own to keep my ride in good condition? I want this baby to last!

Welcome, jakedon!!

Sounds like that 11 has already been doing a great job of "lasting"!! Those ZX-11s are beautiful bikes that have earned their place in history...

Congrats on the "new" ride!!

I highly recommend to get your hands on a service manual for your bike. It is extremely useful and most importantly has all the torque specs for the numerous bolts and nuts that hold your bike together!

There's a product called Startron enzyme fuel treatment that comes highly recommended as a fuel stabilizer that protects against ethanol problems. If you are not going to be riding it regularly (like over the winter) I recommend using it, or you will become very familiar with taking your carbs apart. The idle jets clog very easily and make the 11 run really shitty(even if it's only one).

Thanks for the tips guys. I took it to my mechanic last week. I have a new chain, sprockets, brakes, rotors, clutches, oil change and tune up. I'm ready for the riding season. I am also ready to take on that 12r! I aint stock! Got a couple surprises under the tank!

If you haven't already...buy yourself a Battery Tender or similar unit. Gotta keep that battery fresh and ready for battle!
