ZX1000B Ideas/Advice/Opinions needed.

Hi all.

Please let me know if this post is in the wrong place. (The machine IS an ZX-10 but it is closer to the ZX-11 technically...)

I recently experienced an small scale engine explosion as i was riding my dear 1989 ZX-10 after overhauling and synchronizing the carbs, the first proper ride this summer, I suppose the old engine did not have any interest in co-operating when moving over 150 Mph. :)

The engine has not been opened yet, but i already found a piece of engine block sitting against the exhaust, it was from area near cylinder #3.

So i could make an assumption of that i probably need a new engine for that machine.

Here comes the part where i could really use the help and knowledge of those far wiser than i.

So these are the opening questions:

- Is there any sense in rebuilding the engine? (new crankcases + crank and rods)
- Or should i install an ZZR1100/ZX-11 or ZZR1200 engine to it?

- What parts are needed when swapping the engine? both engines do fit there physically but what about the carbs/wiring harness/Ecu?

- I also have another ZX1000B which has not yet exploded. Are there any things i could do in order to prevent another engine explosion?

I saw some discussion somewhere about doing some oiling system modifications but i dont know how they work on the 1000B?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The zx11 has this problem also. The zzr1200 swap is very common. I would say if you can find a zzr1200 this would be the way to go.

Thanks for the info.

So there is not much to do about the oiling issue on the engine?

is there any way to avoid this from happening on the other ZX-10?

Riding it like a moped? :D

Terry Kizer at Mr. Turbo had an oiling kit for the ZX11 years ago. No clue if you can still get them or not.

I hate stupid people.

I hope you can find some assistance and a kit. The Mr. Turbo ZX11 in 1991 was a bike that gave me a major league boner when I was in high school. If memory serves me correct, it ran over 230 mph for Sport Rider in 1994 or 1995.

Heh, that is some serious speed there. Wow.

Is there any way to contact the people at Mr. Turbo?

Tried to browse through their pages but did not find an e-mail address for them.

I live a bit too far from Texas to make a regular phone call. :D

Hi guys!

I want to change my engine as well. Does anyone know if the zzr 1100-engine fits the zx-10? If so, should I choose the early engine or the one from later models?
Bolt-on is prefered!

Thanks, Mattias
