05 zx10r future purchase scares

Hello all, i am about to venture into the litre bike world and have a few questions/ concerns. I have searched all over the forum and other forums attempting to find a 90% clear answer as to why a speedometer would stop working but the odo and tach continue to work on an 05 zx10r. The bike has 4400 miles and the dude wants 4k for it but i dont want to jump on a deal that seems too good to be true and then get screwed over by it. Owner says it has been wrecked so im wondering if the mechanism in the cluster itself has been messed up or if the speed sensor he put on it is faulty. Any thoughts or help will be greatly appreciated!

I would not buy a bike that has been in a smash ! ! spend a few more dollars and get a mint one owner fully serviced bike that you know has been looked after ? they are out there ,just take your time .....

Thanks for the response andy. The bike is a one owner bike which brings joy to my helpless thoughts. Im hopefully going to look at it this upcoming week and see if its actually going to be fixable and worth the buy. I will let you know how it turns out!

If the odometer works but the speedo doesn't, that would suggest the problem is in the cluster. If neither works, the problem could be anywhere.
