Steering Damper on the 07

G'Day

Can anyone comment on the stock steering damper fitted to the 07.

I've just been to the track and found to my surprise the steering damper does absolutely nothing. Wind it all the way on and the steering is as free as wound all the way off.

I don't know if it's broke or that's just the way it is. I would appreciate it if someone with an 07 could tell me how stiff thier steering becomes with the damper wound on. I have to sort this out because the head shake i get coming out of corners is real bad!

My next stop is to take it into the shop. Surely it's not fitted for cosmetics

Thanks in advance

Hey Duck,

I too was very disappointed with the stock damper. A lot of people in the US use the GPR, however, I purchased the HyperPro model.

Here's an address where you can see my installation.

Thanks heaps for your input Snake.

I've been waiting some time for someone to give thier input. It looks like i'll have to swap the damper out. It's manageable as is so long as you keep the power on but handling would be much nicer if sorted out.

Thanks again Snake!

I was at a kawi dealer today and looked at a ten with an Ohlins on it, I tried moving the bars with damping off and full on and didn't feel any diff.
I have a 12 r with a Scotts on it and you can barely move the bars with full damping!
I would look at one of these if I were you.

Shiny side up!

The OEM Ohlins is useless unless you tinker with it a little bit. For about 100.00 Kyle Racing will rebuild your OEM to an actual Ohlins spec. I wasn't willing to come off the cheese so I did it myself. Basically the OEM design has holes in the adjustment needle to allow fluid to constantly pass threw it. I removed my needle, plugged the holes with epoxy resin then reassembled. The only difference between mine and one done by Kyle Racing is mine doesn't "click" on adjustment. It just turns. This is because I did not have a special tool to reinstall two ball bearings that provide that "click".
