Land speed Tire question

I'm going to replace my tires for some land speed work.
The question is
Do I get the Diablo Supercorsa SP V2 which are the lightest and stickiest tires (accelerates quicker)
or
some Touring tires which are heavy and hard. (with maybe less rolling resistance)

What's everyone's thought on this for the most top speed?

2004 zx12 1290cc 191std HP 495 lbs
2014 zx14r 195sae HP 520 lbs
2014 Loring AFB 14 runs over 200mph
with a best of 208.1 in 1.5 miles
and 204.5 in the mile.

Most touring tires have a lower speed rating around 160mph tops but usually less. Go with the Diablo tires even the street z rated are for 160+mph.

So This was a question ive pondered many times...

Whats the highest speed rated tire?

What do most of the people use who go lets say over 220 mph use?

But especially what r madmen like kz who r pushing 240-260 plis mph use?

Has any manufacterer designed any tire for these ridiculous speeds?

I know they check your date code to make sure ur tire is new enough to compete but yeah, how about some insight....

And thanks in advance.

I used the metzler m7rr on my last trip to loring and liked them. I should get over 4k miles with them on the street as well. They came in second behind the super corsas on the track in a mag test. I dont think they tested the v2. I like Michelin tires for racing and have never used the corsa. I think that the corsa is the tire the Hulk had on it. They hook thats for sure. Redsled.

The tyre manufacturers hide when you mention 200 mph.

In theory the highest rated road tyre is 186 mph with a load rating of 78w which will be something like a Michelin Power Cup 200/55 rear.
You can also buy road legal in UK. race tyres that are rated to 196 mph supposedly but you will not see this in writing.

I think any good quality Michelin,Pirelli/Metzeler even Bridgestone tyre would be OK on my bike on tarmac but I personally would not use Avon Dunlop or Continental because I have seen failures with all these makes in some cases several times.

The grip you need dictates the tyre you use depending on many things like the all up weight of your set up and the power you are trying to put down. the condition and temperature of the track for a few but the important things are check your tyres after EVERY run and use metal sealed valve caps.

It seem were the rubber meets the road is a grey area in land speed racing.
The manufactures do not want to certify a tire for speeds that will only be reached by a handful of people.

But what i'm trying to decide is which tire might be faster.
I think I'm going to go with the lightest stickiest tire with 50 lbs of air.
Lightest will accelerate fastest
Stickiest because it will slip less with the high pressure.

So when you are going for 200 moh+ speed there is no tire that will guarantee it wont blow up?.
With speeds that KZScott is reaching his power one tire is only certified to 186?
Its just a gamble?

my understanding is that the rating is for sustained speed, and a quick blast is no big deal for the tire to go well above its rating. look at what the pst bikes are doing with the 16 in scooter front tires. 100+mph over the rating

I agree if we were doing ovals and maintaining that high speed the tires would get HOT!!
That would lead to tire failure.
But
What we're doing is a quick run up through the gears.
Okay we are staying in sixth a little longer.
When we're done the tires are barely warm.
I'm not too concerned about a tire blowing at my speed.
I'm just hoping to go faster this year by choosing the correct tire.
A light tires accelerates faster but a heavier tire might help the motor get those additional revs.
I'm over thinking the little things right now.

Last year it wore Bridgestone s20 when I posted those numbers.
This year I purchased a set of New Bridgestone s20 EVO which are on the bike right now
and
the Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP V2 which I will put on
just before leaving to go to Maine.
Then the Bridgestones will go on my zx12
Yes, the 12 will get some hand me down tires but they Should have less then 500 miles.

When are you going to Maine? Or better yet when is the event? I've always wanted to go and see it first hand, maybe I will take a ride to see what it's about.

Lou I'm going in Sept because It's a little cooler so the engine will make a little more power. And from what I read there are a few less competitors which translates to more runs.
But there are always some very interesting vehicles.
Here are some pictures from the July event.
Worth the trip to see at least once!
