Got to give him credit.... he hasn't packed up and quit yet, despite all the discouraging results.

Speed comes with time, and it seems Shane has got nothing but that. Sooner or later we'll be reading about a 9.99 or better pass.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't have much natural talent. And age/fear/life has slowed my progress.

I don't feel bad about 10.3@141 at 250 lbs. suited, stock wheelbase.

But I am in this for the long haul. Like Phantom said, I have nothing but time. I hope to race until I am physically unable to do so.

38 years down....hopefully 20+ years to go.

The 9's will come...but I am in no rush.

Can't say 10.3 @ 141 is bad...hell if you calculate our weight differences Shane isn't off the pace much....its all about that 60. I'd say if we were bracket racing he would probably advance, as I'm still inconsistent  Shane doesn't like to just jump into something ad hoc. I tend to be like that, but considering how many gremlins I've had, I'm lucky to be alive!

We all sorta forget that the 12 is a LOT of bike, period. It isn't the 250, or the 500, or the 600, or the 636, the 750, the 9R, the 10R, the 11.....its the big bad 12. And I think he really respects the bike's capabilities and doens't wanna eff up and have something go really bad.

You'll get it Shane....don't make me go digging up my slips.....I've got literally TONS of 1.8 short times

Very true... Best I ran was 10.18@141mph with the stock engine N/A.

Granted, I only had a total of 15 passes EVER on the bike, and it was geared for the 9/10th's...not the 1/4. Stock wheelbase, just strapped.

But that was 2 years ago.... I have no clue what she'll do now. I really never got too interested in the 1/4 mile. I've always been a 9/10th's racer, but I figured I'd at least try the 1/4 a few times for the hell of it.

I think Shane has like 200 passes under his belt and a lot more mods on his bike now than I had back then.

Hey Roy, when you going to come out to the 9/10th's and run that 12 of yours? Trust me, the REAL fun takes place AFTER 150mph. In fact, one could say it's "4 times the fun" of the 1/4.

Just make sure to take off those training wheels, 90 tooth sprocket, and drag slick... they won't help you when you're out there.

I think for some people, speed comes easier. It's like any other sport...some have natural talent, others have to work harder/longer for their gains. I definitely fall in the latter category.

For whatever reasons, I am not discouraged. That may be part of the problem! I guess my personal goals are fairly modest.

One day I might be considered "fast" by some.....but it sure isn't happening overnight.

shane you would be in the 9.90s if you were 175. you are doing good.
my learning was a friend on a busa just saying find a rpm the bike will launch at with out bogging or lofting and try to feed the clutch out with in 15ft or less. i got use to that and ended up in the high 1.6s almost all the time. with the low end his stock geard busa has he just lets er go at 4000 or so and gets 1.58 60s. he says i got more skill getting 1.68 stock hight and gearing with a strap but i must say when we race each other he is almost smoking a cigeret waiteing for me at the 60ft mark.

I am going to keep working at it.

Just looking at the "best" numbers, it doesn't seem that I am improving. But consistancy and form mean a lot to me. I have seen massive improvement this year. Could this be the "calm before the storm"? :?:

On a different note, I have to say that the 12 has been very good to me. Closing on 23k miles, original plugs, valves never adjusted, and 250 drag runs in the last 14 months...not to mention the LSR stuff.

If it blew up tomorrow I couldn't complain.

SHANE,the gearing helps alot on the 12's for us big guys. my bike is stretched and slammed but have played alot with the gearing and i run a 16/51 set up now. that will be hard to control with stock wheelbase but the 16 front help the 60ft big time! doin good ,keep it up good luck
