Anyone do Adventure Touring?

I know Miklos and Got2BYellow have done lots on their DR650s...is there anyone else out there who has done some cool trips?

Alaska, Europe and Africa...

One of these days I'm either going to get my employer to agree to a one month solid vacation, or I'm going to quit so I can spend the month doing nothing but riding! I've always wanted to do an east coast, a west coast, and an Alaska ride. Mexico would be a blast too, but not right now! ;)

Sir Yes Sir! Here is a link to the ADV rider page that has a couple of pic's.

We already have our first service's done on both bikes and we have a full crash cage on the F800GS.

Let's see your 1200GS/A - Page 284 - ADVrider

Amazing machines for sure. I have to admit the F800GS is significantly more fun! =)

Yup, if I could only have ONE bike, the F800GS would be THE BIKE!

How does R/E like it? Standard height, tall seat?

She LOVES it!!! It is at the stock height and the seat is the normal seat. She has long legs so she has no problem putting her feet on the ground.

That bike has to be one of the most entertaining rides I have ever ridden...really I should have got that instead of the adventure. I had the GSA in the mountains today, came around a corner, face to face with a Grizzly bear around 50 meters away. No where to go, and the dirt road not wide enough to turn around...scared the crap out of me. I revved the motor and held the horn on, and the Grizzly went on his way...slowly. Freakin amazing...I have never been more scared in my entire life.

The GSA does well off road, but it is a challenge for sure, especially in rough stuff. I sure had fun though!!!

WOW! She must have long legs. I was on my toes on the F800GS I rode. It felt maybe 1.5 inches taller than the big GS ADV.

Cool with the Griz. My motto is pics first, self oreservation second.

Rae handles the 800 like a pro, it has helped bring more confidence to her riding! I love it!

As for pic's, I was too busy shitting myself to even begin to dig the camera out! I do need to do a great deal of research into the animals you can run into in the rockies, if there was any one thing I learned from this is plan to meet one of them critters on any ride out in the wilderness!

I cannot wait to see pictures from your ride to Alaska!!! =)

Here you go. Not quite Alaska, but its mountains and snow and pissin rain and cold. Exactly what we were looking for! We were testing riding gear in preparation for the trip.

Very cool! LOL You guys are true adventurers!

I bet the AWACs bubble on the back of your bike can hold a small keg!

You both must be getting excited...

Highway 40! I cheated...LOL

I had a nice ride on 40 twice last week, taking some of the logging roads that branch off it! That is where I had my lil run in with the Griz...really, really nice riding with no one for miles!

When do you guys leave?

If you cheated by looking in my photo album, the pics are the stretch from Crowsnest Pass to where Hwy 541 intersects it. We saw NO wildlife in that stretch. Not even a single deer. But there was shitloads of cattle in there.

We may be riding the rest of that area next year if we make it up for the Masters Tournament at Spruce Meadows.

AK starts 5/13

I like to ride fast in the desert! Im going to be upgrading my old lc4 this year. Id like to get a superenduro..just dont have the coin at the moment. Here some msic shots.

I wish Big k made something to compete with KTm at this point. The KLR is just way to heavy for me. I like to do single and double track for the distance.

Id like to try a KLX, but it doesnt hold as much oil and seems to be more of a race bike. I need something in between the KLR and the KLX, right now thats only a KTM

Yes the choices are limited somewhat, but not do "hardcore" off road stuff, the BMWs work OK. Heavy. KTMs are cool but pretty pricey up here, and not keen on the look of some of them. Oh well, I will live them, and learn to be a better off road rider!
