Thoughts!

Hey guys, thought I'd introduce myself.

I'm a newish member to the forum, although I've actually been lurking for a good 2 years. I live in Canada and I'm all about going killer fast on the street aswell as going killer fast on the trails.

I'm looking for something like a duel purpose/duel sport style bike. Something I can drive on the street, and drive fairly quick, yet something I can easily take off-road on the weekend and use as a different type of toy.

I'm a massive fan of Kawasaki's and I'm not looking to spend gobs of money on the actual bike, new bikes are out of the question most likely, however aftermarket goodies are a different story.

Quick, multi-purpose, realiable, cheapish, any year and model. I've done some research but I'd like your opinions.

Thought I'd come to the pros for advice before I go and spend some cash. 8)

( Thanks for adding this section Easy ;) )

Dual sport is fun with most any bike you can get a plate for. I ride a KTM 625 set up for super moto and can honestly say it's the most fun that I have had within semi-legal limits. Find something used, throw a set of 17" wheels on her and have at it !

The most important part is making sure you can register the bike for the street. Most titles have " for off-road use only" stamped on them and will not go through DMV. I believe all the Kawasaki bikes for off road will have this label. Their are ways around this by sending the title to VT, but it seems like a hassle to me. The nice thing about KTM's is that they do not label the titles with that stamp, regardless of the bike. I have heard that is changing for 2005.

I think the only street legal Kawasaki that fits your description is the KLR650, but it's not a particularly quick bike. Fun city bike, you can have a blast in the dirt (though it's not competitively fast) and supposedly remarkably comfortable and practical on the highway for a dual purpose bike, but, certainly not a fast highway bike. Not a lot of power, and I don't think there's any cheap way to get a great deal of power out of it.

Whether you can convert a non-Kawasaki 4-stroke MX'er to be street legal and find it as practical a streetbike as the KLR650 is, I don't know.

I think there are KTM's that could be exactly the ticket but maybe not available used, maybe too much cost, don't know.

I know this thread has been dormant awhile, but there is another green offering: KLX400! No longer offered new, used ones should be available. They're just rebranded Suzuki DRZ400's so the aftermarket is plentiful. In the Suzuki's, the "S" models are street legal, don't remember on the KLX's.

According to me the perfect bike which suits your need is Kawasaki KLR650. I have also used this bike and it is best street as well as faster bikes. So I have recommended you to purchase this bike.

First I want to make sure everyone knows that my first choice is always Kawasaki but with dual sport KLR650 is a joke.....and I think Kawasaki don't feel the need to compete in dual sport bike class, they are more into performance bikes like their KDX, KLX models, so I say if you are looking for a dual purpose bike then KTM or BMW....but if you want to stick to Kawasaki then definitely KLX/KDX models they will give you some rush that you get from sportbikes......tons of power bikes....I think they made a model with head/tail lights.... or you can even convert them as dual purpose bike.

If you want to know how fast, get one and check it out, there is no substitute for Horsepower!
