1290....pros and cons?

Thinking about a big bore and was looking at the 1290 (as well as the 1270)

Any issues with these? Looks like there isn't much left between the cylinder walls going with a 3mm overbore like this? Overheating issues?

How much HP can you see over the 1290....maybe 3-5 more? How do they stand up to a small shot of nitrous vs stock bore or the 1270?

Thanks.

Ali

If had to do it all over again I wouldnt go into the motor. It only gave me 15 more hp., however the new pistons are forged. which allows more spray. I would Do the wet nos system, schnitz nos controler. and efir.. timing retard module. you can spray 60 hp all day long.. talk to vincent hill.Hes the man :D

shipteey..................I spent 7000 dollars on my motor. well 5000 minus the nos system, anyway I went from a pipe and pc,that made 182 hp to a fully built 1270 That makes 200 to 205 depending on the day.My point Is from 182 hp to 200 hp ???? Is 5000 dollars really worth 18 hp??? To me the answer Is no... Spend some money on a quality wet system with the proper electronics. Enjoy your 180 hp on motor bike. and know that with the flip of a switch you're on a 230 .240 something horse power bike. that wont blow up.. they dont recommend more than 60 or 70 hp on stock pistons.thats why I say setup a 60 shot wet, And feel confident that things will hold together :D and small guys like us are hard to beat, even with 180 hp .forget about 240 hp :D I gota tell ya, a 240 hp 12 Is quite the hand full. I have sprayed only to 250 hp.Im scared of the full 100 shot :D

I like the way al thinks, FWIW. 8)

Nitrous is your best HP/$ ratio. Of course all the US mfg's do it wrong.

The 1270 has .4 higher compression and comes with cylinders. Does the 1290 really make more HP given the reduced compression?

With the 1290 you have to bore and replate your cylinders.

APE does a 1287cc kit w/ cylinder:

Muzzy's claims that in their testing, 1270's consistently made more power than 1287's. Take it FWIW.

Good to know! Someone quoted me 350$ Canadian per cylinder to bore and replate.

909$ US from APE, thats less expensive than Muzzy even if it doesn't come with head gasket.

cool
