| 2 small bottles vs 1 bigger bottle...which one?
Ok guys, I'm going for a 40 shot and most kits have a pretty small bottle, which is ok for occasional use. However I'm looking to spray @ maxton, which is 1 mile long. From what I've heard 1 lb bottle will last me 15 seconds. Seems like 1 lb bottle would be good for 1 run since it all lasts about 20something seconds. I think I'd want to run spray more than 1 time since I may need practice  and it'll be fun anyways  Would it make more sense to go with a 2 lb bottle so I could maybe get 2 runs in, or 2 seperate 1 lb bottles so that each run is equal? My thinking is that on a 2 lb bottle, if I run it a 2nd time, the pressure will have dropped from the first run, so it won't be a true 40hp, right? What is the biggest bottle you can get in the tail section of the 12R? This is already getting addictive and I don't even have it yet! Thanks everyone, I know similar questions have been asked but which one would be best in your opinion? Multiple bottles sounds like it could get pricier....what about a 5 lb bottle? 2.5? Ali

Biggest bottle I've seen fitted was a 2.5 pounder. A normal 2 pounder fits loosely in the tailsection I've got a 1 pounder and a 2 pounder.... I'd recommend the 2 or 2.5 pounder for a land speed run simply because you want to maintain the bottle pressure through the entire run. A 1 pound bottle will run out of juice at the end of the run... but every second it's used, you lose bottle pressure which translates into a loss of HP. SO the trick is to use a larger bottle that will still have high pressure in it after 1 run..... OR you could always get an automatic bottle heater. Keep around 900-1000psi and you'll be fine. |

Thanks Phantom. So you guys just run nat/asp and when you feel "ready" just spray and pray? Seems like you wouldn't get many runs on the juice, right? Maybe 1 or 2? Any pics of the 2.5lb bottle in the tail?

Phantom: You were saying that the bigger bottle would last the entire land speed run....here's what I'm wondering: If 40 shot, 1 lb = 15 seconds, that's 15 seconds MAX, meaning tapering out @ 10 seconds? If it implies almost 15 full seconds of spray and I'm thinking of spraying gears 3-6 you think I'd come up short or running out by the end of the run? I'm thinking in terms of 1/4 mile....I'm running 10.2 seconds @ 142 right @ 3rd gear limiter. Assuming 3/4 more miles to go would be another 15 seconds to go roughly, wouldn't that 1lb bottle barely suffice? On the flip side, if I wait till beginnning of 4th gear (after 1/4 mile) then I probably won't have enough average HP required to get to 200mph, right? AAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! !!

You WILL run 200mph with a 40 shot. I have 2 lb And 2-1/2 lb bottles. you are correct . a 2lb bottle Is worth one good run and one shitty run. thats It.. You should be able to get high 180s low 190s on motor. Do you live up north ? No place to test before you go ??. My advice to you Is to get as many bottles as you can afford. Do they have nos refills there ? Me and you are the same size . My old motor made 182hp sae and I hauled ass on IT. 190s no problem with a 40 shot I could have hit 205. Im talking with a friend of mine phantom 12 , about driving up there. We would like to meet you guys and check out the scene there. :D

Thanks for the insight Al. I've been reading you and Phantom's posts. Seems like Phantom likes stirring shit up w/the Bugly boys on labusas.org :P My whole thing is I'd like to rock whatever config I can but it has to remain hidden at all times. No swingarm bottles or "holseter" style on the side of the tail or whatever. Not sure how easy it is swapping bottles out after one is done. Guess I need to do a little more research on it. You make it sound easy as hell as far as breaking 200mph. Guess we'll just have to wait and see  . You and phantom wanna head up here? That would be cool no doubt. MIR drag strip is just an hour away. Skyline drive/shenandoah is also near by but thats more twisty stuff. When you say "you guys" are you referring to Vincent and I? Not sure who else on the board is in the MD/DC/VA area. If you wanted to check out the scene as far as Land speed racing....NADA. Maxton is the closest thing and thats a 6 hour drive! Unless you're talking about some street stuff. Man you guys don't no how much you have it made w/the 9/10 being so close by. FUCKERS! But yeah, just holler if you're heading up. I ride w/a couple 600s  but whatever, it should be a good time 8) ...oh yeah....so you haven't had any problems just spraying the 40 shot over and over and over? No oil blowby the rings? I'll be running stock, down to the pipe. I'll have it "worked" when I take it to the shop, but I'm talking stock down to the ecu. You don't think there is a chance of running lean and blowing it? Only 5k on the motor. Taking it to a local race shop that loves Kawis. There is a guy around here who wins the dyno shootout every time. Like 420 hp w/out the NOS! Turbo 12, license plate MEANZX, he runs on the street w/wheelie bars and 2 bottles of NOS   Peace, Ali

You are correct about 1 pound lasting 15 sec on a 40 shot... But the 9/10th's lasts a total of roughly 22 seconds... of which, we don't spray in 1st gear so you've got roughly 18 seconds of spray time. With the 2 pound bottle, you'll have enough charge to spray that 18 seconds without dropping off on bottle pressure up top. The second run... you lose most of the pressure halfway through and you get nada up top when you need it. So if you're going to run maxton... get a 2 pounder. For the 1/4 mile... a 1 pounder will due for a couple runs. As for spraying to get 200mph.... you'll need to use that 40 shot from 2nd to the end of 6th. Again, achieving success at maxton or any limited distance run is about Acceleration. If you wait till 3rd or 4th to get into the juice, you'll be shooting yourself in the foot. A lot of people think that sacrificing duration for power will help, but it only hurts in this type of run because the distance is limited to 1 mile. Do the math.... 18 seconds of 40rwhp = 720 9 seconds of 70rwhp = 630 Of course, you could spray the 70shot for longer... but you're now sacrificing RELIABILITY for duration which is extremely dangerous. |

Cool! I have 2 bottles coming in with the kit any day now! Cutting it close now :? but hopefully it all gets done right and timely. Both bottles are 2.5 (for good measure). I didn't know that @ these events there are usually people w/nitrous refill stations, I figured I'd have fill up both bottles and hope for the best. I'd like to practice spraying in 2nd though before going! I'll start w/3rd somewhere nearby just to get a "feel" for it, then do for in 2nd. Not much time to test and tune...I'm going the ol "spray and pray" method  ....w/colder plugs, retarded timing and richer up top of course :) Ali P.S. Too bad you and Al can't make it out there...Vince & I will have to hold it down for the 12s  Ali

Update is I sprayed in 4th-6th and ran 189. Sprayed 3-6th and ran 192 (slightly messing up in 4th gear) You can chalk that up to being a rookie out there AND having a 44 tooth sprocket on. Waaay to tall gearing given my HP. Got the 45 tooth going on this weekend and will be spraying in 2nd-6th as advised by Phantom....not to mention need to get my bottles @ the correct psi, I ran lukewarm/cool bottles  Maaaan does it get blurry past 180s!! LOL! Ali

It's even more blurry on the fun side of 200mph.... =) believe me, there's a noticable difference between 190mph and 200+mph. 190mph is, "OMG!" 200+mph is, "OMFG HOLY SHIT!!!" When I first hit over 200mph on GPS... I knew it was a 200+mph run even before I checked the GPS... it didn't feel like a normal 190mph pass. Good luck to you brother! |
