I love the first day of vacation....

Talk about an epic day. To start my wife and I went on a great hike. I bought an 02 ZX9 on the way home for $500 that just needs plastic (4k miles and some nice goodies) and as we're walking out of the garage I spy what looks like a 12r motor sitting under a cloth. The guy had an 01 several years ago and had a shop install a brand new motor after his old one developed a tapping noise in the top end. It turns freely and does not make any noises like it swallowed a valve. He let me have it for $200. I now get to ride my bike while my motor is being built and play with my new toy 9r. I'm headed out for Boston tomorrow morning for ten days...it's going to feel like an eternity now that I have projects waiting at home. To cap the day I went for one of the longest rides I've been on this year (100 miles) up a very curvaceous canyon. Life is good!

I had a 99 ZX9 and it was a fun bike. Pretty light and handled well.
Too bad issues started surfacing from the original owners mistreatment so i got rid of it. The ZX12 replaced it.
I may still have the factory service manual sitting around.

The gears are already turning. I'm thinking about making it a mate to my 12, all black fairings, 05/06 10r front end, black PCed frame, and a muzzy 998 kit. I'm glad my wife hasn't adjusted her standard of living to match our new income....

Try here for the big bore kit. Zlock Racing

Should be a fun project. I found the factory manual but it only covers to 98/99. If you want it for the cost of shipping let me know.

I thought about doing the upside down forks and other things on mine but it started burning a lot of oil. Got rid of it quick.

Awesome! The 02/03's were definately the best of the bunch on the 9r's. Guess you could leave it stock for your economy rig. My wife gets right around 50mpg with her '03.
