ATTENTION CARBON FIBER LOVERS! HANS' Stuff

I finally got in contact with Hans (deBotech). I mentioned that there were several on this site interested in buying carbon fiber parts. I know some, maybe most, have already bought what they were wanting. Anyway, Hans said for us to figure out what we wanted and he would "make it." Hans CF parts are darn dang good (looks, quality, and fitment). CF is a great way to reduce weight. Ship, Phant, etc. (the Maxton and Texas Mile boys) you might be interested in this too. So, let's use this thread to post what we want. If there is interest, let's do it. If not, we can just drink beer and forget about it.

I remember Vozzie wants his ZX-12R '02 CF snorkel.
I want the two CF side tank covers, winglets, and tank cover (one in front of seat) for the ZX-12R.

Who's next?

Negative. Two emails in the last 24 hrs. though. If we get an order I will ride up to his shop to discuss it wiff him. In fact, since he specified he still had some CF buckle guards, I might go see him anyway to get one.

I remember some of the old prices (See below). I bet he's waiting to see which parts and how many he'll need to make in order to give prices. If he needs to make something he doesn't have a "mold" for, he'll need the OEM part and maybe a bike to check fitment.

Seems like I paid:

Ram air covers: $260
Ashtray: $65
Rear hugger: $260
Front Fender: $240

I would also like a B model snout, however I've heard he can only wrap them due to their complexity.

Interesting.... the guys I ended up using in Singapore did that. The finish is exquisite.

I could've got some made locally at CarbonTek, but needed a fairly substantial order to justify the mould making. There was a call on here an age ago... but no takers.

Voz's snorkle was destroyed in Han's mould-making years ago so it's your guess what happened to the original project. Bloke seems pretty unreliable to me... he never answers his mail and seems to ignore people for years. Geelong in Oz make some of the best stuff I've seen... but no B model snorkels.

I've been in Hans' shop several times in the past 8 years. Everyone of those times he was working on big orders. I believe much or his work goes to NASCAR. He even had a contract with Buell to make the carbon fiber parts for the mighty Buell X1 Lightning Carbon Fiber Extreme employing a special blue kevlar fiber. I'll be glad to most pics of my Buell. I can understand why bike parts take a back seat to the major orders. Maybe this time of year is a bit slower for him. Or, maybe orders are just slow due to the state of the economy. Who knows? But, I believe Hans is very receptive to making bike parts now.

I think we should give this thread another week and then we can give Hans what people are wanting and see what he wants to do. I was hoping we would have more interest.

How about some 10R parts......

As to Hans' not being unreliable ... As Mark stated Hans' is a very busy man with lots more to do than pimp a couple of motorcycle parts. I've had every part he makes for the 12R on my own 12R and every part was art work. It's the real deal and no bull shit.. Light as a feather and strong. If you guys are fortunate enough to get him talked into producing more of these parts it would be foolish to not jump on this and get some. I wish he made parts for my 10R..

How do the orders work with him? Pay first before parts are made or pay after they are made?
I would really hate to have to pay for the items and then get thrown on the back burner for an unknown time should his business pick up.

Too late. They did.

The mighty 1999 Buell X1 Lightning Factory Special Edition Carbon Fiber Extreme, 173 of only 250 made. Employs a special carbon fiber using a blue thread manufactured by Hans (Debotech). This is not your father's Sportster. 101 bhp and 90 ft-lbs torque from this 1203 cc twin.

I feel Hans has been in business far long enough to known if he could pull off making us some parts and how long it would take this time around. His work is awesome without a doubt, (I've been seeking out his parts for a while now) hopefully this will all go smoothly if he is willing to commit. As Chuck1 has stated, "I would really hate to have to pay for the items and then get thrown on the back burner for an unknown time should his business pick up." I too feel this way and I'm sure there are many others.

With that said, IF Hans states that he is willing to make the parts with a clause that IF business does pick up, he will honor our order within a certain time frame, should this be a month later or six months. A price break clause would be predicated on such untimely wait/delay.

Let's say a part is 280.00 for on time delivery and 220.00 on a 6 month wait. This way, in the end everyone would be happy, you'll have your parts and he will be able to work with unforeseen occurrences.

There are many ways to make this work for everyone, should all parties be men of honest stature and show willingness to work with one another.

BTW tenbears, that carbon intake "snout" is nice! How much for wrap and how long?

Besides the visual effect and maybe added durability, what benefit does CF give? I know it is suppose to be lighter, but if we're talking about the front fender, snorkel, ram air covers, etc. what are you going to save from CF? like 4ounces?

Is there anything that WOULD give substantial weight gains, besides CF wheels?

... at the end of the day... it's a personal, aesthetic choice isn't it.

I mean you'd probably loose more weight having a healthy 4lb dump in the morning than you would by saving any weight with fancy carbon.

Oh and the intake covers either side for the B model as well

Oh and I'll take a pair of winglets too

The biggest weight loss for the 12 is to peel the fairing stickers off and then slap em on a ZX10.

As much as I like the 12 it is not a light bike nor is it easy to lighten it because of the motor being physically larger and heavier than the liter bikes. If I wanted a really light bike I would look at a ZX10 or Gsxr 1000.

Weight loss depends on how much you want to spend and how much you want to make your 12 a more narrowly focused bike.

Pipe is the biggest weight loss. Next might be one of the newer and smaller batteries that knock about 10 pounds off.
CF wheels drops some weight off. Ohlins forks are lighter than stock. You could hack the subframe down to just the rider portion, and run a one piece race tail section. Removing all the street legal goodies like mirrors and turn signals.

The you get into stuff like changing all steel spacers to aluminum. Aluminum and titanium hardware. Drill holes everywhere they can be safely drilled.

Some things wont affect how user friendly the bike is. Some will. You could probably get a 12 down to the 450 range but you will spend a butt load of money to drop that weight off and will loose the user friendliness of it.

Carbon fiber fenders and such is done mainly for looks. I have them because i like how they look. Sure the weight loss is nice but that's not the real reason I got them.

Well i definately want an A model snorkle, winglets, and depending on cash flow front fender, ashtray, ram air covers. And a carbon hugger with an aluminum chain guard built in so i don't have to take my hugger off everytime i go to the drag strip.

Ok, I don't wanna get all mellow dramatic or even prophetic BUT!!!

Isn't it childlike that everyone on this thread has a part in creating this fantastic "Christmas List" if you will call it this. And in the magical theme of Christmas there is only one person capable of bring this list into fruition and who is that person you may ask????? Why it's Santa Claus! And our Santa for this exciting moment in time is Hans!!!

Therefore, let us cut to the chase, if there is no Hans, there is no Santa. Done.

LOL. Now, how should we do this? Make a tentative list and email/call Hans and see how he wants to handle this stuff? I think this thread has gone long enough.

I agree wholeheartedly! This thread has truly gone on long enough and there are serious buyers ready to put in their orders.......well, at least I think they're serious?!!!

Any who......Mr. Barbarian, can bring our little thread to Hans of Carbonland attention. Ultimately He has the last word in this. For he holds the crown in the land of carbon fibah! (don't forget to throw in the English accent)
