I assume you mean White, which on a white background looks Clear... That said, I signed you up as requested...

The names on the sign-up list in Black are definite, the Green ones are tentative... What status/value would you have me assign the names in Clear (White)??

Again, I'm taking you seriously, because (whether anyone realizes it or not) people are trying to plan their budget, vacation, and other functions around this list & what it represents... Please advise your status.

Aw GO... as much as I wanna go, I can't pledge something that far away...

It all depends on money, and if I can take two weeks off work.

It's a 5000 mile trip for me...

I'll be there in spirit... but not sure if in person. I could always get a room
in Robbinsville... and ride with you guys in the day.

Or crash at Gunners' house!!!! That's where the ladies will be!

Well, if your situation changes, I'd love to see you make it out... FWIW, there's usually an extra bed or two that can be had for a modest contribution... Keep watching & somebody might be coming from your area...

Well Jere...... You know how the women go... Sometimes you're flush and others you can't buy a piece of ass in a woman's prison with a fist full of pardons... A man has to make hay while the sun is shining...

AND Jere...... Them ain't Ladies that I run with..... ;)

You're gonna have to cite specific instances, Gunner... Most here are not aware of Jere's being "nice", and will benefit from some specificity...

J/K, Jere!! You know I'm only sayin' it 'cuz it's true!! LOL!!

Anyone that lives along I80 between Salt Lake City and the Gap are welcome to hitch a ride with me. I'll have a van and if need be a trailer.

Sounds good to me. I'm going to break the trip into two, 12 hour stints behind the wheel.

Hopefully, as soon as Lash gets our Gallery recovered from whatever hell it fell into , we will have the Rally Gallery back... There's also many pics in people's personal galleries from various rallies.

Like many here, I was (am) lazy, so the ZX-12R gallery was the only place I stored a lot of my pics...

I will mention it to Mr. Lash...

Maybe I missed it, but is there a date yet???

I'm just over in Charlotte, NC, near The Barbie ...err...Barbarian, so I should be able to make it over to the DG area. I've ridden there and the surrounding area many times, so I might be able to help out with routes, restaurants, etc. I know I'm still a relative newb around here, so I don't want to step on anyone's toes if'n ya'll got this thing figured already.

As far as places to stay, I've had a good experience at Fontana, but some friends that went last year had some real complaints about their cabins, etc. I've heard great things about the Iron Horse place, but I've never stayed there (though I visited the place a few years back when I was scouting for a bike rally spot). I've been to the DG Resort many many times over the years, but I've never actually stayed there. There is another motorcycle friendly campground/site along 28 as well that I've seen, but never stayed at. I'm not sure if it's a camping only thing, or if they have a bunch of cabins too. I know Iron Horse has numerous cabins to rent, along with tent camping for those wanting to do it on the cheap/rustic.

Mach - The first post in this thread has the info... PLEASE post-up if there's anything that's not clear!! If you aren't getting the info, maybe somebody else is missing it also!!

Please consider making it this rally... The more "locals" we have there, the better!! Let me know if I can add your name to the list!!

LOL! I figured I just missed it. Sure, you can put me down at tentative to probable. It really just depends upon my work situation at the time of the rally. I'm optimistic though.

If I followed the thread correctly, the exact location and costs are still to be decided, correct?

"Home base" is traditionally Fontana Village Resort in Fontana Dam, NC... The resort is located on Hwy. 28:

The resort offers (among other stuff):
Camping
Inn Rooms
One, Two, & Three BR Cabins
Restaurant
Pool & other Activities

It usually winds-up that two or three 3 BR Cabins are rented for the week, starting Sunday afternoon/evening and loading-out on Saturday morning... One of those is usually a gathering point for starting rides... Another might be a place for meals, etc... Some folks bring food to share (For example, I usually bring a lot of pulled pork BBQ...), and everybody usually plans for the evening meal to be at the resort, so that they can have a few adult beverages...

A good idea is to discuss rooming arrangements & try to buddy-up with some folks to fill the rooms effectively... Some people like to be near the group for some late-night activities, while others kinda like being away from the hoopla... If you like a group, get with a few folks, otherwise, an Inn Room might be a good way to go... Either way, with full occupancy, I think it runs about $40.00 per head per night... (I need to confirm prices!!) For those who enjoy camping, I remember the rates were very reasonable!!

There's usually a few who wanna set-up a shop for changing tires, oil, etc., so there's a place to take your bike for tending to those details... Fontana also offers a free bike wash station...

I'll be posting the current discounted prices for our group (I'm late getting this done.) prolly on Monday, cuz I'm waiting on a callback from them right now...

Mike,

Put me and the Misses down as tentative. She will be Big Red One (and riding a.....Harley). It's been awhile but looking forward to slaying the Dragon again, this time on a ZX-14!

Will most likely pull a trailer out there so we can link up with you for a convoy like last time I went.

i'm the camper in the group. camping at fontana dam is ok. it's clean, quiet and mostly deserted during the week. i would not want to stay there if it's full as the facilities won't handle it comfortably. my preference is the deals gap resort for camping. lot's the happening place during the day, huge bonfire at night surrounded by bikers, and very quiet. restrooms up on the hill are spotless, roomy and never crowded. also half the price of fontanna.

...Well, I knew you were gonna call me out... I still have not got the thing installed!! Imma putz!! (We don't have any embarrassed smileys anymore... I could use 'em here!!)

Seriously, tho, I am planning on installing it soon... I DO want to have it installed B4 DG'09!! (I'm still riding a coupla times a week, so a tear-down is hard to schedule...) You notice I have NO SHORTAGE of excuses for not getting it done!!

Put me down as a tentative. I have a couple of potential glitches but I'll see what I can do.

deals gap for non-riders

I have a question for the forum. Should a nonrider go to the gap? The reason for my question is because my wife that doesn't ride wants to go with me. I said no because she does not ride and that if i was out riding I would have to stop riding to call or go check on her. I am going to show her the thread so can you guys please help. I have never been there but i want to go, but is there anything for her to do while i am riding. If we are there two days I feel that i would have to be with her and the kids. We could use a family vacation but i don't think the gap is a place for non-riders.

if you leave her a car, there is plenty for her to do: whitewater rafting, trout fishing, hiking, tubing, horseback riding, riding around the mountaintops just looking. or drive over the mountain to Cherokee --casino, India village, shoppng. there's Gatlinburg, dolly woood....she might even like sittin there on the porch with a book and a bowl :)

89 ascmclearn My wife has talked about going to the gap she has been there a few times as a passanger but never rode it herself. She says she would like to come along this time but asked if any other ladies would be there because she might ride once or twice if lucky and would like to have someone to bum around with go see the sites in Knoxville ect.. so keep me informed.

Check out the resort itself:
Fontana Village Resort. A Great Smoky Mountain Destination!

and there are other things around the area to do especially if she has access to a car.

Would love to but am doing France, Switzerland, Italy & the Alps for the 1st two weeks in May. That Cherohala is one of the best roads I've ever ridden.... simply blinding [the Dragon's limp wristed by comparison].

Are you shipping a bike over or buying State-side?

bring her, she can follow along and supply beverages and the like at rest stops

there are a lot of things to do in the area and we don't ride 24 hours a day, so there should be plenty of family time as well as riding. Although, Go isn't really family safe...something to think about...

I pass right by you on my way down. PM me and we can hook up for the drive to the Gap.
