My new 2014 concours

Good afternoon all.
So I just bought a new 2014 concours. I pick it up Tuesday. It has 0 miles on it.
My first question would be break in. Dealer suggested nothing over 4000 rpms for the first 600 miles. Then nothing over 6000 rpms until I hit 1000 miles. Then it's on so to speak.
I'd just like opinions on that. This is my first ever brand new bike so I want to do it right.
And of course a first service at 600 miles.

My old bike was a 2000 concours. Bought used with 20,000 miles on it

Ride the bike like you intend to ride it...normally. An extended, slow, break-in is more for the rider, than the bike. Change the engine oil (even if not the filter) early. Say, under 300 miles. I have done the first change as soon as 50 miles. If you want the most performance, ride it like you stole it, as soon as everything is up to temp (about 10-15 miles). That is your best chance to seat the rings for maximum power.

Lot's of evidence to support that a long, slow, break-in doesn't do much good for the engine.

And...congrats on the new machine! I see a Concours in my future....really like them. Just not quite ready to turn that corner from higher-hp sport machines.

The manufacturer has performed wayyyyy more materialographic testing on their product than you, me, and everyone else on the inner-webs.

If the factory specifies a procedure: follow it. If you desire factory performance and longevity, it's your best chance of receiving it.

He's congratulations on the new machine.
I got to drive one for an hour while Kawasaki was servicing my 2003 ZX12 last week.
Very impressed , very smooth and precise and firm on the road.
Got back on the 12 and had my ball replaced back just under my tonsils, such different machines.
Best of many miles of smiles
