You need many things for that to avoid some taxes, why not ask the officials there.

Don't wander very far from home...

Dunno the laws there....but I have a mini chopper, not in my name yet, no ins or plate on it...I rip that bastid all over the place within a 6 block radius....went a few miles once....

A few blocks should be enough to "test" it out.

Having it test drive is not necessarily a must but to make sure that you have the right kind. Better ask the officers.

1. to avoid paying a lot of taxes, (especially if you bought the bike from out of state) write up a bill of sale and put down as taxes (already) paid about $ 190.00 ...you'll end up paying about $ 40.00 in taxes

2. to avoid registering you bike for awhile, make sure you have insurance, that is very important - cops will let you slide with anything else, most of them are sympathetic towards bike riders unless they get caught driving 90 on 35! write your self a bill of sale (from John Doe) and make sure you always have a recent bill of sale with you...dated just few days ago.. if they ever ask you why your insurance is 10 months old, just make up a lie, after about 11 months you should get a new card.
Cops have no way of knowing you had that bike on your name for a year UNLESS it has previously been registered in your name.
...and like my12r said, don't venture too far from home!

ride nice, and safe, and if they'll pull you over for no tag they'll be more lenient ...got anymore questions like this just let me know privately

Mine is not registered as well. I was trying to come up with something along the lines of "I traded him for this". Of course with a bill of sale saying what all was involved with the trade.....

a few years ago I used a tag and insurance from a zx12r, to ride a suzuki gsxr 600 for a whole year...got pulled over a couple of times but none of the cops realized it ... I think they don't get into checking vin numbers unless you're from out of state!
