That's my neck of the woods Motocopter. I live about 10 miles from the big Natchez Trace bridge. The park rangers hang out between the exit at Leiper's Fork and the end at Hwy 100. That is absolutely the best section of curves on the whole damn road. You probably noticed that the speed limit goes down to 40 from 50 on that 14 or 15 mile stretch.
At any rate, if your on a bike, the bastids will pull you over for anything. I mean anything, just so they can look at your license. I'm speaking from my own experience and those of people I ride with. The last time we got pulled, one of the guys riding with me had his tag mounted vertically. Totally legal in Tennessee. Never the less, got pulled over, got his tags and license ran. Then the cop said "I'll have to check on that tag placement to see if that's legal." This after about the 5th time of me hearing from other people that the ranger used that same excuse on them. Never a ticket for the tag, it's just the excuse to pull you.
One time I picked them up on my radar detector two curves before we ever saw each other. I signaled my partner and we were doing two or three below the speed limit when he met us. The sum bitch does a u-turn in the middle of the road and comes flying up behind us. He rides about 10 feet off our ass for about 3/4 of a mile until we just pull off at a parking area. Then the prick does another u-turn and pulls over under a shade tree and just watches us until we rolled out.
Now I think I know that ranger your talking about. His name is Terry Ashe. Real nice guy to talk to, as a matter of fact I've had lunch with him down there at Puckett's. However, he'll write his mother up if she's not squared away. I saw him with a Harley rider that had a passenger pulled over on the side of a road that goes under the Trace. Later I saw him at Puckett's eating lunch. I asked him what he was picking on the Harley rider for. He said that he noticed (while driving down the road) that the Harley rider had a helmet on that wasn't DOT approved. I was like WTF? He said, "John, I ride so I know what a DOT approved helmet looks like."
Anyway, he say's the residents that live off the Trace in that good section of curves will call up and bitch about the motorcycles ripping up and down thru there. I said your freaking kidding me. He said "No I'm not. They will call up and say they are going North bound or South Bound." I asked him if it was Naomi Judd, and he wouldn't tell me, however you can hit her house with a rock from a bridge on the Trace, so that's my bet.
It just another waste of a good road. Beautiful curves and alot of runoff on the sides with a fu*&king 40 mile an hour speed limit. I don't go up there anymore because of the coppers, but I know a couple of guys that still rip it up good. They just put the hammer down harder when they see the man. Not a lot of incentive to stop when your going over twice twice the speed limit, lol.
