Speeding ticket in Australia on Canadian licence?

Hey guys,

I recently moved back to Australia and currently still hold a Canadian drivers/riders licence, I chose not to get my Australian licence right away as I was hoping to get away with a few tickets maybe by playing the "im on holidays and was enjoying the scenary so much that the vehicle speed must have crept away on me" if pulled over.

Anyway, I got pulled over the other day doing ..... ok get ready for the speed demon .... 110 kmh in a 100 kmh zone (for the Americans id say this is prolly like 65 ish in a 60 zone) AND this is on an highway far in the country where you "may" pass 1 car every 15 mins in peak times. To my suprise he took my Canadian licence and didnt even blink and headed back to the car where he wrote me the lowest ticket I have ever heard about in my entire life on this planet. I was polite and answerd in yes sir's and no sir's.

So my question is, are the Australian police / authurities able to deduct points from my Canadian licence?

Thanx in advance guys

Yep thats the way it is down here, frickin sad I reckon!

Speed cameras and radars everywhere.

It's not so much the fine that hurts, it's losing the demerit points, and you only have 12 to lose.

I don't know the answer to your question, I guess if you are planning on staying in Oz for a while then they will hunt you down. I believe the law here in WA says after 3 months then you have to get a WA liciense.

So you may just have to suck it up sister and pay the man.

BTW... I just realized this is in the Police forum, and I am not a member of the Po Po.

Skinart, Nice to see you posting, not so nice that you got picked off for doing basically nothing. Sad really and I could go on a rant, but I won't.

I know your in Alberta so I can answer your question with 100% certainty, no they cannot take points off your Canadian license. Even other provinces have to have an agreement in place for this to occur. So your good to go.

Have fun down under, I am insanely jealous.

Oh and how did your turbo 12R work out? I think you had done an incredible job so far, and want to know more! I would love to see what it would do top end and in a standing mile...

In any event stay safe!

Yah its been a while since ive been on, ohh yes the Turbo ZX12R ...

Unfortunatly that bike is caught up in a divorce at the moment lol .... its all finished except for the fuel / ignition managment is not wired, kinda sad as it only needs about 1 days work to get it running.

So at the moment im just riding a stock (slip on) ZX12R, and the heat in Australia is killing me and my skin haha!

Take it easy guys and thank you for the info.
