Well, our deputies got into a little mess of their own. Here how it reads.

BRADLEY - When Juanita Spradley saw Polk County sheriff's deputies swarming near her leased pasture last week, she thought they had rounded up some poachers.
Instead of finding suspects in handcuffs, she found some of her cows had been killed.

But the bullets didn't come from the guns of the poachers who occasionally cut her fence and hunt wild hogs.

They were killed by deputies who feared the animals would wander onto State Road 37.

Spradley said the deputies acted in haste.

``It was a senseless slaughter,'' she said.

Sheriff's officials say lethal force was appropriate.

Deputies who responded Thursday evening to a call about cattle running down County Road 630 killed the pregnant cows because they were afraid they would make their way to the busy state road and cause an accident, sheriff's spokeswoman Michal Shanley said.

Spradley, who lives in Plant City, drove to the leased land after receiving a call from a neighbor about her cattle on the loose.

When she arrived, five cows were dead in roadside ditches. A sixth had been shot in the neck and ran into a wooded area, Spradley said.

Spradley plans to seek legal advice about recouping losses she put at $6,000.

She said she doesn't understand why deputies didn't try to tranquilize the cattle.

``There were enough deputies out there, they could have closed the road off for 15 minutes, long enough to tranquilize them or herd them into the back of a truck.''

Once again, the opportunity for a much more acceptable alternative clearly presented itself, but was completely and totally IGNORED.

I've always tried to keep a very open mind when it comes to trying to understand the decisons LEO's are faced with everyday, but reading shit like this sure makes it difficult. They were COWS for Christ's sake...

Wow, that's pretty F_cked up. We have cows and horses getting loose all the time in town, we just shut down the road and round 'em up. I can't even imagine shooting a domestic/farm animal because it threaten to run into the roadway :shock:

They call my city "Cowtown" so bustin bovines is not out of the norm...I can only remember two instances of shootings similar, but thats cause they involved big ole bulls damaging the hell out of things and everyone understood that (try and round up a rampaging 2,000lb bull).

As for cows on the loose, can you say round em up boys...

I got several problems with this.

1. Where this happen is the freakin' boonies.... if I were riding in that area and DID NOT see a cow walking down the road I would be worried.

2. What's this shit about a cow shot in the neck??? Come the freakin' on here!!!

This is how I think it went down........

OK... poor old Daisy and her friends find a opening in a fence. "Hey girls... let's go for a walk. They be strollin' down the country road and all of a sudden.............COPS!!! Daisy says to the girls... "Don't worry, they're just shoo up back into the fence." Then all of a sudden............ "FREEZE, you slimmy ass cows", a deputy says in his best command voice. The girls are stunned! BANG!!! Daisy looks over and Misty got a hole in her head! BANG.. BANG... BANG ... they are droppin' like flies!!! Daisy say.... "Fuck this shit... I'm out of here!" She starts to book out .... full speed (at least 20mph) Deputy say's, "HALT or I'll shoot you in the neck bitch!" Daisy says, "Fuck you... you want me to hold still so you can get a good shot! BANG.... Daisy gets it in the neck but makes into the woods. After all the shooting.... the deputies walk over the the cows very slowly with handguns and rifle at ready. They hoof-cuff them and call for a vet-wagon. One deputy looks over at another and says........ good collar!!!

Watching CNN a few days ago, news talking about 2 females were run over by a police SUV that was driving on the beach looking for a bad guy... 1 died, other in serious condition.... that's gotta sux.
