Got ticket for reckless driving today.

Long story short. I was speeding to work this morning trying to get there on time since I was running late. I get about a block from my job and a county sheriff car churps me. I'm thinking.."Okay, he must have seen me doing about 70 or so. I pull over into a parking lot and turn off my bike. He come up to me and tells me to get off the bike and put my hands behind my back. The cop is apparently angry. He then states he has been chasing me for the last 7 miles and I was evading him. I thinking WTF!! He says he paced me at 110mph. I thinking if I wanted to evade him I could have. :? I respectfully express to him that I can't see behind me when I am riding, and I didn't know he was behind me. He can barely get the cuffs on me because my wrists were to big. He then tells me to take of my jacket, helmet, and gloves, and then he throws me into the back of his car. The radio tells him I have CCW, so he is really jumpy now asking if I have the gun on me. All this time, I am pleading that I was not running from him. He is still blowing me off. Then he checks my record and see that it clean. Checks my driving record and sees that it is clean. He turns around and say he I am lucky, and he is not going to arrest me or take my bike. He then give me a ticket for reckless driving, and let's me go.

My question is, have anyone else, specifically in Michigan got reckelss driving before?

I got 8 tickets all on the same day in Michigan... way back when I was
17... and going off to war... like I gave a shit.

I thought that if I survive, I'll worry about them if I ever got home...

Never went back to Michigan... that was like 36 years ago...

I talked to my lawyer friend, and it's not that bad here in Michigan. He said I should be able to make a deal for paying just a fine and no points. We will see.

Cops like that are assholes. I stopped for a guy like that once (immediately), he jumps out of his car SCREAMING at me.."GET THE FUCK OFF THE BIKE", "SIT YOUR ASS ON THE CURB", "DON'T FUCKING TALK TO ME". ...short man's syndrome or something, I don't know...

What percentage of officers, do you think, are like this??
I've seen/experienced far too many instances as this. They make it hard to look at any policeman with anything but negative feelings. A real shame for decent men, as we have here 8)

UPDATE GUYS!!!

Well, till this day the ticket is still not in the court system. I think the cop was actually cool and either lost the ticket or tossed it. Called the court and they said if they haven't received it after this much time it is most likely not going to show. Fingers crossed

we once had a friend of a friend over at our house for a gathering of sorts......he was a cop, so he's sitting in our home, drinking our whisky, telling us that he hates bikes, and bikers, will go out of his way to stop them for anything and throw the book at em, it makes his day......needless to say, he scored no browniee points at that party
on the other hand we know other cops, who are totally cool, have their own bikes, and we ride with them.....
long story short, cops are humans, some are assholes, some are decent....

I like cops in general. I just don't like dickheads in any profession.

Like Marcus stated, just like any other profession, plenty of dickheads to be found. I sure know my share of dickhead cops. In fact I spend very little off time around them with the exception of a few good riding buddies. Rule number one is no damn cop talk off duty.

I think riding a Buell would be justification for getting a reckless driving ticket.

I know I am a little late joining in on this one but we all have to remember that being a cop is stressful. A bike blasting by is a red flag. He gives chase. He is all by himself. He doesn't know if you just stole the bike are carrying or are just stupid. I was pulled over recently and I was driving "quickly" The officer was a little terse but after he checked my record he apologized and explained they were notified of a bike being stolen in the area and mine was same color. In the end I was rather glad he took the time to check me out. I would hope he would check someone else out too if my bike is ever stolen.

A close family member of mine is a cop, so I have a little different perspective on this whole thing...Yeah, a lot of cops, especially guys that do traffic, are dicks. Part of it is because they want to be out chasing criminals/busting down doors, that type of stuff, and traffic stops are boring and a lot of paperwork for them. That's why lots of cops like the night shift, cause there is more "action" so to speak. Another is the power trip, face it there's a reason cops become cops.

Another thing is the reputation we have as sport bikers...Deserved, no, but it's there. Idiot squids that run up the interstates at 150 weaving in and out of traffic, "burnout guy", "revving engine guy", etc. have all given us decent riders a bad rap. So when we do get on it (as well all do, why the hell did we buy 12s if not??) occasionally we are screwed if we come upon a cop. They don't know that we ride responsibly 99% of the time, they see us the same as the squid wearing no helmet and shorts going 100mph in a 40mph zone...

Third, not all cops are like this. I have been pulled over twice and let off with warnings. I was lucky enough once that the cop owned a Busa, and I was out testing my new 17 tooth gear I just put on (throws the speedo off but I didn't know by how much yet). He could have nailed me for riding after dark AND speeding 20 over but didn't (in Indiana learner's permit riders are restricted to daytime driving only and no passengers)..

State troopers/highway patrol are another story...Their sole mission is to write tickets, so don't expect any leniency from them...

finally, anyone ever run?? I don't have the balls because my career depends on a clean driving record and if I were caught I would lose a very good job...I did pass a cop a long time ago on a country road doing 120 or so, he just flashed his lights and went on his way...

Oh yeah, and one more thing..I understand a lot of people don't like cops, blah blah...But remember that most of them are good guys who put their lives on the line every day for peanuts in pay, and risk not coming home to their families at night...They may be hypocrites for speeding by us on the roads sometimes, but I feel that's a small privilege they earn for the dangerous job they do...again I have cop family so my views are a bit biased.....

I don't want to rain on your parade but it could be he hasn't turned in the citation yet. Normally court dates are set a few months out so an officer can use the same date for a whole bunch of citations. Also here in TN to be considered reckless, an officer has to show probable cause that there was a willful or wanton disregard for the safety of people or property. In other words just speeding IS NOT RECKLESS. There is no "if it's over XXmph" then it's automatically considered reckless driving. The statute recently changed to single out motorcycles and wheelies. It goes on to state that if any time, with the exception of a parade, the front wheel leaves the ground, you can be charged with this offense. The bad thing is, reckless driving is a criminal offense. If you're found guilty of it then you now have a criminal record...not just a crappy driving record.
