I got a question fer you coppers... LOL

Its about speed limits..... They have 2 kinds of signs here in Missouri.

They have the normal speed limit sign, then they have yellow signs and like curves or intersections with 45 or 55 or whatever wrote on them...

I was told the white ones were law have to travel the speed it says.

Was told the yellow was suggestion the speed to travel thru the area but was not the limit you could go faster....

What do you fellas think???

True, the yellow signs for speed in curves are just that, suggested speed. They can bite you though, here's how. You get in a MVA on a curve with a suggested speed of 25 MPH, while the posted for the road is 40 MPH before and after the curve. The cop arrives and asks how fast you were going prior to the accident and you state 40 MPH. Technically you are guilty of careless driving as you were driving above the suggested speed in the curve.

If ya want to play you could be written for diregard a traffic control device i.e. suggested speed. I personally would not enforce that, kinda chicken shit. 8)

Not trying to talk any scrap here - but the thing that's scary about this question to me is the fact that a licensed driver who read the manual seriously should know the answer.
If you dan't pay attention to what the rules are, how can you be taking the act of operating a vehicle out in public seriously? Driving is serious business, and it has to be taken that way to keeop yourself and others alive.

I think those yellow signs are more like idiot lights in cars. They have to put SOMETHING there, but they have no idea what.

For example, in Az when we changed our freeway speedlimit signs from 65 to 75 the yellow cautionary speedlimits through the twisties just outside Bumblebee on the 17 also went up 10mph. There's the proof of the lie. If it was deemed safest to go through those passes at 35 when the speed limit is 65, how did the exact same roads somehow miraculously get safer to go faster on? Even if it's legal to go 75 on the straights now, how did those canyons get safer at 10 mph faster?

And to take that a step even further, how much money did we waste on NEW signs, and new work for a road crew to go out and hang the new signs.

Yellow signs are ADVISORY signs and are not enforceble here in PA, "regular" signs (white ones) are REGLATORY signs and ARE enforceble.

I was out yesterday for a ride and happen to notice that in one of my favorite curves there is a yellow (advisory) sign stating 25mph, now we all know that most of us see that and hit it at atleast 45~50mph. I started to do that and for some reason held back. What I noticed after coming out of the curve was a speed limit sighn (white) stating speed limit 35 and right after the sign within a few feet was a local cop sitting there
I've hit that turn for several years and have never noticed the speed limit sign before.
