zxr 250 sproket

Hey just wondering if anyone had dropped 1 - 2 teeth on the front sprocket on a 2000 zxr250. I was told that if you drop teeth on a 250 it revs out to quick. I want to be able to keep the front up. or get it up in 2 or 3rd gear. pops it in 1st. struggles in second but wont keep up.
